MOSCOW: Russia's smallest coin, made worthless years ago by galloping
inflation, is to be officially withdrawn 290 years after it was first
introduced, Tass said yesterday. A central bank official in St
Petersburg said that all single kopek coins, worth just three-millionths
of a penny, will be taken out of circulation in the city -- and other
areas later -- over the next two months.
