SSE Yorkshire Division Three: Stocksbridge 18, Baildon 3

BAILDON'S warm-up was disrupted by the ten-minute walk from the changing rooms to an exposed desolate pitch, with players arriving at different times, and Stocksbridge hit the ground running.

The visitors' defence held, however, but disciplinary problems gave the hosts the chance to land three penalty kicks.

Late cry-offs meant that Ali Beaumont moved from the back row to centre, and he made several good runs but the visitors failed to break through.

Veteran Nick Murphy also shone for Baildon, who got on the board via a penalty by fly half Oli Waddington but their attacks were sporadic.

The visitors, who conceded a further nine points, will be disappointed by this below-par performance as they could have leap-frogged their hosts with a win but they can take positives from their strong and structured defence.
