PAUL Clough believes there is plenty of "room for improvement" from the Bulls heading into their second pre-season outing against Huddersfield tomorrow.

Former St Helens prop Clough made an impressive debut during last weekend's opening friendly defeat to Castleford but a far sterner test now beckons Jimmy Lowes' men.

Giants boss Paul Anderson has named a virtually full-strength squad which includes five ex-Bradford players as well as new signings Craig Huby, Jack Hughes and Jamie Ellis.

Bulls trialist Charlie Martin has not been named in the Bradford squad, while Dale Ferguson, Matty Blythe and Dan Fleming remain sidelined, but Adam Henry returns and Clough is keen to build on last weekend's impressive first-half display.

"It's always good to blow the cobwebs off as it had obviously been a while since we had all played," said 27-year-old Clough.

"Everyone did their job – the forwards, the half-backs, the centres and the wingers; everyone was pulling together and working towards the game-plan that Jimmy had laid out for us.

"As good as pre-season is, it can never truly replicate a game so, with a few more under our belt we will be on the right track.

"I was happy with the way we played but there is still a lot of room for improvement, which is a good sign.

"All teams are going to improve and the standard we are playing at now, and the standard we'll be playing at the end of the year; we will be like two different teams. Huddersfield will be another good test for us."

Clough spent the majority of last season on loan at Widnes from home-town club St Helens.

Despite the Bulls' relegation to the Championship, he had no hesitation in accepting a two-year deal at Odsal.

"We've trained like a Super League club because ultimately, hopefully we will be facing Super League opposition at the end of the year in the Super Eights," said Clough.

"There was no point going part-time because we would just be putting ourselves behind the eight-ball straight away.

"Training has been Super League-standard and we intend to play in Super League at the end of the year, so that's when we need to peak."

Huddersfield coach Anderson, a member of the 'Awesome Foursome' at Odsal during the club's glory days, took his men to Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire for a three-day pre-season training camp.

The Giants were put through their paces by trained army instructors from the Fifth Regiment Royal Artillery (Yorkshire Gunners) and Anderson believes they will reap the benefits heading into their first pre-season friendly tomorrow.

He said: "We had been to Catterick previously and been shown how to build shelters. We did again but this time they had to live in them, which was fun as if it rained and if you didn't build your shelter properly you got wet.

"The first night they slept outside as they hadn't done it right and second night there were some adjustments. You had to try and manufacture something out there in the woods.

"We got given a bit of string and twine and it was fun at first as everyone was running around nicking each other's gear.

"They were put out of their comfort zone and they had to work together, that's the main thing, and it brought you together as a group.

"When you're cold and wet, you have to get some body heat, so you have no choice but to come together."

Anderson added: "All the staff did the same thing as a group. We lived out in woods for three days too and had a rota to keep a fire going on the night.

"We did an hour each and if the fire went out you were stuffed. It was better than the Celebrity Jungle – only there were no celebrities."
