Dean Windass DID do his best to get Nathan Doyle to sign for Hull - but only after the Tigers had made their move.

City fans were wondering whether the top scorer's presence at the KC Stadium lured the talented youngster away.

And Doyle admitted that he did get a call from Windass pestering him to come. But that was once Hull had already struck a deal with Derby.

Doyle said: "Once Deano heard that I might be coming then he was on the phone selling the club to me. He is another reason behind why I came to Hull.

"While I was at Bradford he made me feel welcome and he is a good lad."

The 20-year-old sat and watched Hull slip up against West Brom on Saturday - a second straight home defeat that dropped them back into the Championship relegation zone.

But boss Phil Brown, like Colin Todd, knows Doyle's qualities from his time at Derby. And he believes the cash Hull splashed out, believed to be £100,000, will prove a snip in the long run.

Brown said: "By the time Nathan is 24 or 25 he will command ten times the transfer fee we paid for him. I've watched him for a long time both at Derby and from afar and he's a prospect."

Doyle remains very grateful for the part played by Todd and City in establishing him as a first-team player.

"I've played over 30 games for Bradford this season and that's been good. All of the players, staff and fans were good to me there and playing regularly has been a massive benefit."
