ANDREW Davies will celebrate his 30th birthday tomorrow by coming clean – and getting rid of the beard.

The City defender’s hair-raising experience began in August and he hopes to have raised around £3,000 for the Bantamstrek charity group.

Davies admits it’s been an itchy episode but he’s taken it on the chin.

“It’s done my head in and my wife’s,” he laughed. “But I’ve stuck to my guns and not shaved it off – until now.

“People dared me to do it and I wanted to do something for charity. It’s been four and a half months now and I’m quite proud I’ve stuck at it.

“But I can’t wait to get it off now because it’s been driving me insane. I’m waking up with ‘bed beard’ because it’s sticking out all over!”

But has it had opposing forwards fearing the beard?

Davies added: “I think people are scared of it a little bit.

“I’ve seen a few strikers staring at me as if they’re thinking ‘what’s going on with this bloke?’ They probably think I’m mad.

“It’s going to be cold when the beard goes but I can’t wait to shave it right down and get back to looking ugly again.”

Bantamstrek, set up by City kitman John Duckworth in 2010, generates funds for Macmillan cancer support, the Bradford Burns Unit and the club.
