SIR - I would like to take this opportunity to correct a transposition of a statistic which I quoted in my letter about street lighting.
The sentence in the second paragraph of my letter should have read as follows:
A study by the Department of Transport's Transport and Road Research Laboratory of 64 sites showed reductions of 30% in all accidents involving injury and a reduction of 45% in pedestrian injury accidents in built up areas during the hours of darkness following improvements in street lighting.
My research has shown that more accidents occur in unlit streets and the adverse effects of the County Council's cuts to essential services should be highlighted.
Vivian Jones,
Worcester
