WHARFEDALE General Hospital is in Otley – but it could well have been transplanted to Threshfield such is the Greens' injury list.

On top of the men who are already unavailable, such as No 8 Rob Baldwin, the Dalesmen lost lock Richard Rhodes, flanker Dan Solomi, full back Taylor Prell and fly half James Guy in the early stages of their 35-3 SSE National League one defeat at Fylde.

"To lose your key line-out jumper and vice-captain, your No 7, your full back and your ten inside the opening 20 minutes is incredible bad luck," admitted Wharfedale coach Jon Feeley, who has given up counting his walking wounded.

Rhodes has a shoulder dislocation – "he was lucky it wasn't broken", said Feeley – while Solomi has a knee injury, Prell an ankle injury and Guy a potential concussion.

Feeley added: "We have got six back-rowers in the physio room and we ended up with six front-rowers in the pack and a reshuffled back line.

"Dan is being assessed by our physios, while Taylor is being assessed by both Yorkshire Carnegie and us and could be out for two weeks, and James is undergoing cognitive tests for concussion to determine his fitness to play.

"It looks like a sound beating but against a side of the quality of Fylde, some teams would have finished on the wrong end of a cricket score having lost those four key players early on but we never gave up and our spirit and commitment was there for all to see."

As if Wharfedale hadn't suffered enough, they had prop Matt Beesley sent off with two minutes remaining for retaliation, while winger Scott Jordan, who has a young family and another child on the way, has given up the unequal struggle of travelling from Chorley three times a week and signed for Preston Grasshoppers.

Feeley said: "Matt is only 22 and will learn, while Scott, who takes two hours to get to training and two hours to get back, has probably put Wharfedale ahead of his family for too long.

"He is a great player and a great character and we would welcome him back anytime, which will hopefully happen when his children are a bit older."
