SHELF Juniors have been awarded a £5,000 Grow the Game grant from the Football Foundation – the country's largest sports charity.

The club, who were formed in 1992, will primarily use the money to continue funding under-18, under-15 and open-age teams, as well as forming an under-21 team, and train four new coaches over the next two years.

The older age-groups are a specific target of the Football Foundation as they seek to address the decline in participation as young people leave school or college.

Shelf Juniors' chairman Tony Aaron said: "We would like to thank the Football Foundation for awarding us this grant as it allows the club to continue to grow all our age groups.

"We have also been able to set up a new team that competes in the West Riding County FA Under-21 Floodlit League.

"They will play at various venues as ordered by the West Riding County FA, while our open-age team plays in the Halifax League and our junior teams feature in the Huddersfield RCD League.

"We currently have three home venues – Westwood Park, Queensbury School and Old Brodleians Rugby Union Football Club – but we have just been given planning permission to build on land near Shelf roundabout which will have two 3G five-a-side pitches and grass pitches for seven-a-side, nine-a-side and 11-a-side."

* Bradford Warriors under-sevens hit the goal trail against Mount Pleasant in the Huddersfield RCD League.

Luke Bateman, Cale Gomersal and Declan Puddicombe bagged hat-tricks, while Harry Coup and man of the match Alfie Gibson notched braces.

Rothwell proved too strong for Warriors' under-eight teams, with Harry Varley, Alfie Smith and Bailey Dalby netting for the Blues against Rothwell A, and Summer Hughes and Brandon Goldsborough scoring for the Whites in a defeat to Rothwell B.

Defender Jack Stokes and Lucas Kanberoglu were the Warriors' respective men of the matches, while Donrique Davis got that reward for the under-nines, who drew at Deighton thanks to Mason Martin and Jack Mahon.

Their second string triumphed at Brighouse Sports B, with Roberto McFarlane (4), Jordan Styslo (3), Brandon McDonagh (2), Callum Marshall, Alex Taylor-McKeown (penalty) and man of the match Ben Green on target.

Facing Division Two leaders Northowram at home held no fears for Bradford Park Avenue under-12s, and they won 4-0 thanks to Ellis Martin (2), Joseph Papworth and man of the match Connor Chippendale, while Avenue were on the wrong end of a 4-3 thriller at Birchencliffe in Division 5B, with Brandon Emmett, Ben Wyatt and Clark Bolton on target, while Harry Wood and goalkeeper Alistair Welch also impressed.
