LEEDS fans have urged the Football League to make a speedy decision on whether Massimo Cellino will be allowed to continue as club owner.

Cellino bought 75 per cent of United's shares from former owner Gulf Finance House Capital earlier this year but failed the League's 'owners and directors' test after being found guilty of tax evasion in an Italian court and his takeover was blocked.

The Italian businessman won his appeal against the Football League decision in April, pending written confirmation from the court case's judge on whether or not his failure to pay import duty on a yacht had been a crime of dishonesty.

It has been reported that the Sardinian judge, Dr Sandra Lepore, has ruled there was "elusive intent" and "Machiavellian simulation" by Cellino and therefore, under League rules, the 58-year-old is no longer a 'fit and proper person' to own a club.

Cellino has appealed against the judge's report but the League are under mounting pressure to force him to sell the club.

The League have yet to receive a copy of Dr Lepore's report and, it is understood, have no right to request a copy.

Under League rules, Cellino is obligated to notify the governing body of any change in his 'fit and proper' status.

Amid increasing speculation about the club's future, fans group Leeds United Supporters' Trust have pleaded with the League to end the uncertainty.

A statement read: "The Leeds United Supporters Trust calls on the Football League to end unnecessary speculation about the future of our great football club regarding their pending decisions on the club's current owner Massimo Cellino.

"For too long owners and football administrators have failed to consider the consequences of their actions on loyal Leeds United supporters.

"Trust members are frustrated that uncertainty has yet again been introduced to Leeds United and the resulting instability that creates for the club's business operations and the club's supporters.

"This lack of consideration needs to end and the best interests of Leeds United and the integrity of the Championship need to be protected.

"The Leeds United Supporters Trust call for an urgent, unbiased and final resolution that is in the best interests of Leeds United and its supporters, unfettered by the past or vested interests."

Cellino is currently facing trial over a second Italian tax evasion charge concerning another yacht.

He is accused of failing to pay import duty owed on a second yacht and the trial is due to take place today after being adjourned earlier this month.
