THERE were mixed fortunes for the two Bradford Sunday Alliance League clubs taking part in the FA Sunday Cup first round.

Thornton United welcomed Merseysiders Dengo United, the Croxteth side who are run from the Abbey Road wine bar.

In front of a large crowd at Manningham Mills, both teams had chances in a fast and furious opening 20 minutes.

Thornton, missing several players – including inspirational skipper Jerome White – fell behind to a penalty but levelled via Nath Woodward, only to fall behind again when they failed to clear a 55th-minute corner.

Host manager James Marsh brought on Deroy White, who made an immediate impact by heading in Andy Tasker's cross.

But Dengo missed a glorious opportunity to win it in normal time when they put the ball wide from the penalty spot.

And they were made to pay in the final minute of the added period when White scored again, this time from Tom Metcalfe's long free-kick.

Bolton Woods welcomed King George to Thackley and found the Wakefield team in fine defensive form, although Woods had chances before and after King George moved in front after 65 minutes.

The visitors killed off any hopes of a Woods comeback 15 minutes later when a defensive mistake allowed an attempted cross to fly into the top corner of the net.

Thornton will host Alder in the second round on November 16, while West Bowling – Bradford's third representatives, who received a bye – will travel to Birstall Stamford.

Bowling were in Bradford & District FA Senior Sunday Cup action instead and the holders eased into the next round with a 6-2 victory over Alliance Division One opponents Red Lion.

Aidy Day bagged a brace alongside a Ben Kendall strike in the first half and a double from 16-year-old Joe Wood made it 5-0. Red Lion then replied twice in between a Paul Jackson consolation.

Peel Park left it late to progress at Division One side Manningham, even after taking the lead in bizarre fashion when a shot rebounded off the bar and hit an oblivious Allan Morley senior on the back of the head before trickling over the line.

Manningham then scored either side of half-time and would have won it but for outstanding goalkeeping from Alex Stephenson.

Despite this, Peel Park had hit the woodwork three times themselves and only equalised via Sean Jack with the last kick of normal time.

Adam Turner soon made it 3-2 to Park early in extra-time but his own goal put them 4-3 behind before Mark Shute's goal took the tie to penalties.

Stephenson was then the hero again, saving once as his team converted all five of their spot-kicks.

Hosts White Eagles met Delius again and went ahead from Jamie Bairstow's header – and were 5-0 up at half-time thanks to Craig Smith, Tobias Pascal and an own goal, among others.

Pascal's penalty then took the home team out of sight, although the visitors scored twice late on, including the goal of the match, Levi and Lee Maturine finishing off the hosts' scoring.

Grass Greener United, from Division 1B, welcomed Division 1A opposition Dog & Gun in the third round of the Bradford & District FA Cup and Craig Wiseman gave a match-winning performance for the hosts.

Rob Coulter, Lee Mathers and Sean McVaye netted for Grass Greener in the first half before Mathers and Coulter added to their tally in the second half, Matty Regan finishing the scoring just before the end.

In the league, there was only one match in the Premier Division as Buttershaw Celtic and Stanningley Albion shared two goals and the points at Wibsey Park.

The visitors went in front just before the interval with a dubious penalty but Celtic equalised through Jamie Brennan in the second half.

There was a high-scoring Division One thriller as Cuedos Rangers and Wyke Rangers shared eight goals but there were only three scorers.

Clive Bic bagged a hat-trick for the visitors and Shane O'Parker hit a late equaliser after Jordan Missin had hit all four for Wyke.
