OLIVER Roberts' move to Huddersfield was finally confirmed today after it was revealed he had joined the Giants on a two-year deal.

The Bulls were keen to keep the highly-regarded forward following their relegation but the 19-year-old England Academy starlet has opted to join Paul Anderson's side.

Roberts became a full-time professional at Odsal along with Curtis Naughton and Sam Wood in October 2012.

He made his Super League debut off the bench at St Helens in June 2013 and featured again at Wigan the following month.

Injury prevented him from playing again that season but he featured against Huddersfield and Widnes in March of this year and then suffered a broken leg in the defeat at Wigan on Easter Monday.

Roberts, who hails from Brighouse and was in the scholarship at Salford before moving to Bradford, will now join a sizeable contingent of former Bulls at the John Smith's Stadium.

In accordance with RFL regulations, the Giants have paid a fee for the back-rower.

Roberts said: "Bradford offered me a deal to stay when I regained fitness from injury but I wanted to stay in the Super League competition if at all possible after the Bulls' relegation.

"The Giants expressed an interest and as I live really close, and played amateur rugby with a few of the boys there, I know how good a set-up it is and I am joining a top-four club.

"I know the path into the team is a tough one but I'm confident enough to back myself and all I need is a long and good pre-season.

"I'm already on with the nutrition programme, and with a home weights programme, and I'll be ready to go come the trials in January after a couple of months with the group.

"I'd like to thank the Bulls for my time there and both hope and expect they will have a great year next year."

Giants managing director Richard Thewlis added: "Oliver was the stand-out back-rower of his age group for a number of years coming through the ranks and has represented England at youth level.

"He is one of those lads that our staff, watching junior games, have always earmarked as having great potential – and it's very good news that we were able to reach agreement with the Bulls for the transfer of his registration.

"He is a big lad already and plays the game tough, which fits the bill here, and with a full and uninterrupted off season he can really develop his natural physical attributes.

"He fits our policy of wanting hungry young English players with desire to achieve and he is expected to really push our more established back-row forwards for a starting slot in 2015."

Roberts will join the Giants for pre-season training in the first-team squad on November 1.
