DAN Fleming has applauded Karl Harrison's appointment at the Bulls and reckons he will benefit from the tutelage of the former Great Britain prop.

Fleming has joined Bradford from Castleford on a two-year deal and is preparing to represent Wales in the forthcoming European Championships.

The front-rower hails from Halifax, the club where Harrison's formidable displays earned him legendary status, and is relishing the prospect of working with the ex-Salford, Batley and Fax boss.

"Luke Ambler plays for Halifax and has a gym in the town where I help out as a personal trainer," said 22-year-old Fleming.

"He obviously played under Karl and has nothing but good things to say about him as a coach or a person.

"Karl has got so much experience in the game, so if I can just take a little bit of that it will stand me in good stead for this coming season.

"I'm a bit too young to remember him playing but he's certainly a legend at Halifax and is a massive boost to the coaching staff at Bradford."

Fleming, meanwhile, is preparing to link up with Wales as they prepare to do battle with Scotland, Ireland and France.

The winners of the tournament will earn a place in the 2016 Four Nations and Fleming is delighted to have won a berth in new Wales coach John Kear's first squad.

Fleming, who was part of Wales' squad for the World Cup last autumn and has three caps to his name, has endured an injury-disrupted campaign at Castleford but is now fully fit.

"It's going to be a tough tournament and we've got a bit of a different squad from the World Cup," he said.

"Having been out injured, I was quite shocked to be selected as I've not been playing.

"John himself e-mailed me to say I had been selected, so I need to prove myself now.

"I've been fit for about four weeks and I can't wait for the European Championships."

Jimmy Lowes' men report for pre-season training a week today but Fleming, who is studying sports science at Leeds Beckett University on a part-time basis, is hoping to combine his international and club commitments.

"Jimmy has said as long as I'm there for the first two days of pre-season, I'm fine to play in the European Championships," he explained.

"We're not actually in a full camp with Wales for the three weeks of the tournament, so there may be scope to train at Bradford as well.

"I'm really looking forward to next season with the squad we have assembled.

"We have a big set of forwards – Karl Davies looks massive and so does Samir Tarahoui – but competition brings out the best in you and that's what you want."
