BEN Williams has an added incentive to turn over MK Dons – so he can keep playing.

With Jordan Pickford barred by Sunderland from appearing, Williams has become City's Capital One Cup specialist.

The 32-year-old produced solid displays in the earlier wins over Morecambe and Leeds and is eager to make the most of his latest opportunity.

Williams said: "The situation is unique to me but it doesn't affect the way I train. I have certain personal standards and I don't allow myself to switch off.

"It's enjoyable for me. If it only comes round every now and again, you try to savour the moment.

"Leeds was fantastic in the last round. I wasn't aware going into the game how long it had been (since City beat them) and the fans were brilliant that night.

"MK Dons are a good, young, attacking side and you've got to go into the game expecting to be busy. But I want to make the most of it.

"Anything can happen on a day-to-day basis but at this moment of time I have to be patient. Jordan is doing well and the team is doing well – and that's what you want as a player."

Williams has seen enough of his young rival to predict a bright future and can see a lot of himself in Pickford's progress.

"When I was his age, I was just about signing for Crewe in the Championship, so it was a very similar situation," he said.

"The only difference was that Dario Gradi refused to have a goalkeeping coach. We'd have nothing day to day like there is here with Lee Butler.

"At that age, you need nothing but coaching and help – even if it's just a sounding board in case you don't feel right about something.

"As a goalkeeper, consistency is what you strive for and that will come more and more as he plays. Jordan's very talented and he's got all the attributes."
