Sale 37 Cleckheaton 16
On their first visit to Heywood Road, Cleckheaton, always competitive, especially in the forwards, equipped themselves well and it wasn't until the last quarter that the SSE National League Three North leaders pulled away to post a win.
Sale opened with a try from powerful wing Jack Moorhouse, which was converted by skipper Liam McGovern, but Cleckheaton countered with two penalties from Ross Hayden and a converted try from Danny Vento.
A further penalty for each side meant Cleckheaton led 16-10 at the break but three converted tries from centre Chris Mayor, scrum half Ciaran Connolly and flanker Adam Aigbokhae and two penalties in the second half, with McGovern completing a 100 per cent kicking success rate for the afternoon, put Sale out of sight.
