THORNTON United have taken a determined step into the second round of the Bradford Sunday Alliance League's GOALS SENIOR CUP.

They defeated fellow Premier Division side Napoleons Casino 3-1 after a hard-fought tie at Manningham Mills, which is where all three finals – there is also the Intermediate Cup and the Amateur Cup – will be played on Sundays at the end of the season with 2pm kick-offs.

Danny Walker put hosts United ahead, only for an own goal to level matters immediately after.

Nathan Woodward gave Thornton the edge again and, strive as Napoleons did for an equaliser, their goose was cooked in the closing stages when substitute Deroy White scored a third.

Buttershaw Celtic edged through 4-3 at Sandy Lane in another top-flight tie, while two ties between Premier Division and First Division clubs went to extra-time.

Bolton Woods outlasted Manningham 4-2 after 120 minutes, while Oakenshaw did well to push Premier leaders Stanningley Albion to an additional 30 minutes before also falling 4-2.

In the GOALS INTERMEDIATE CUP, there were plenty of goals in the Pudsey derby, Amateurs winning 5-3 over Sporting, while Undercliffe Cricket Club continued their fine start to the season by defeating Fairweather Green WMC 4-0.

In the second round, Eccleshill WMC's Josh Jalali took his goal tally to 11 in three matches by netting five against Second West, competing his hat-trick in the first half in an 11-0 rout during which Ryan Clubley signalled his return from serious injury with a close-range effort.

Meanwhile, Daniel Firth's late goal completed Division 2B Eccleshill Sunday's great comeback against Division 1B Towngate.

Mathew Hannah and Firth pulled Eccleshill level before man of the match Firth sealed it.

In the second round, Dog & Gun and Cartwright Lister shared six goals in 120 minutes but visitors Cartwright held their nerve to win 5-4 on penalty kicks, while Mill Lane 2004 had a convincing victory over Saltaire Rangers, Steve Hollingsworth and David Pemberton both hitting hat-tricks for the hosts.

In the GOALS AMATEUR CUP first round, Bradford United's fine display was enough to see off Eccleshill Punjab 6-0, Michael Middleditch (2), Andrew Stewart, Ryan Simpson, Keith Uttley and an own goal making up the tally, while braces from Steven Stansfield and Jordan Mortimer saw off Clayton Village Sports & Social Reserves 4-1.

There was one league match – in DIVISION 2A, where Gallopers defeated Clayton Village Sports & Social 4-2.
