Martin Highe caught 72 roach for 18lb 6oz from the Old Hee stretch at Beal to win the Lower Aire Championship, which was fished by 88 anglers. David Armitage claimed second place with 17lb 3oz in the match held jointly with Leeds DASA, with Tony Earnshaw third with 16lb 2oz. The next open match is the Calder Championship on Sunday, September 21, which has a guaranteed first prize of £500. Tickets for this match are now available from Simon on 01274-571175. Some sections of the River Calder will be closed on Sunday for round five of the Calder League, which draws at 9am at The Railway Inn. Beal will also be closed on Sunday for an outside booking, with the Old Hee stretch closed tomorrow. Any propositions for this year's annual meeting must be received, in writing, by the secretary at least one month before the meeting, which takes place on Wednesday, October 8.

WASHBURN VALLEY

Catch details for week ending August 31 – Day ticket: Fewston 20, Swinsty 3, Thurcross (catch & return) 1. Total fish caught: Fewston 72, Swinsty 8, Thruscross 5. Average per rod: Fewston 3.6, Swinsty 27, Thruscross 5. The heaviest fish was a 4lb 10oz rainbow trout by Alan Bostock using black buzzer. Fewston: Anglers making the most of low water levels, fishing bank previously untouched. Rainbow and blue trout taking buzzers and dry fly throughout the day. Swinsty: Lots of perch caught, far more than trout returns. One angler returned over 100 perch in four hours. Thruscross: Brown trout feeding all around on nymph and buzzer. Also terrestrials sitting on the surface.

LISTERHILLS AA

For Sunday's members' match at Pilley's, the gate will be open at 8.30am, with the draw at 8.45am. Juniors can fish free of charge for the Junior Cup. Spaces for pleasure anglers will be available after the draw. The RAF Wings Appeal Open Charity match will be held at Armley on Sunday, September 14. This will also be the venue for the Ian Smith Memorial Open on Sunday, September 28. Contact Richard during shop hours on 2639333. This stretch of the canal produced a catch of roach over 6lb for the winner of the last match, while there was a catch of eight barbel from the River Aire recently.

BRADFORD SEA AC

Our next general meeting is on Tuesday, September 16 at the New Inn, East Bierley (8pm). Potential new members will be made most welcome. Our next trip is to Rhyl on Wednesday, September 17. There are still one or two places left for this, which is proving very popular.

SALTAIRE AA

The annual meeting is planned for Monday, November 3. Any proposals from members have to be sent in writing to the general secretary with the names of proposer and seconder by Monday, October 6. One of the most notable recent catches is that of an 8lb carp on the canal near Dockfield using fly fishing equipment and tactics by one of our junior members. The canal and river are both fishing well at present.

BINGLEY AC

This Sunday's match will be held in Myrtle Park, Bingley. The draw will be at 9am in the car park behind The Ferrands Arms. Call Tony on 07971-428678 to book a peg.

HEWENDEN AC
