Bantams cup heroes are at it again as Parkinson's class of 2014 create more history

James Hanson seals a dramatic victory over arch rivals Leeds

Billy Knott sparked the comeback with a sublime strike

PHIL Parkinson savoured the sight of his City side writing another chapter of club history and roared: This team never know when they’re beaten.

Late goals from Billy Knott and James Hanson clinched the first win over Leeds at Valley Parade for 82 years on another pulsating Capital One Cup night.

Leeds, down to ten men for an hour after midfielder Luke Murphy’s dismissal, had just sneaked in front through Matt Smith. But City came roaring back to earn the glowing praise of their manager.

Parkinson said: “I thought we were fantastic. We did everything in our powers to get that goal and then we got hit by the sucker punch.

“It was frustrating but we responded in great fashion. The mantra we’ve tried to instil into the players is to keep believing.

“The game lasts 94 minutes, or 99 as it did last night, and it’s never over.”

City missed out on the big boys in the third-round draw. Instead they must travel to MK Dons – a week after going down there in the league.

Parkinson added: “I’m not going to be greedy. When we’ve been in this competition before, we know you don’t get it all your own way.

“We’ve got the big tie earlier than we expected this time. We’ve had the draw that everyone wanted and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

“It’s so important for me and the rest of the staff that the new players have handled the big occasion. We knew they would because they are confident in their own ability.

“We said to the lads before the game that they had the chance to make history. Even at 1-0 down I don’t think they could have done much more to win the game.”

Knott opened his home account for the club with a 25-yard thunderbolt just two minutes after Smith had broken the deadlock. Hanson then struck two minutes later with his fourth goal of the season.

Parkinson said: “Billy Knott produced a moment of top class. He’s got the ability to produce some real special moments and that goal will be remembered for a long time by the people of Bradford.

“Hans gets the headlines for his winner but those situations he practises all the time at training to get his timing right. It’s great to see all that hard work pay off.

“The place was just bouncing and I hope it came across like that on telly. We really enjoyed the night and the lads are in great spirits.

“We told the lads to keep their discipline because we knew the atmosphere would be electric. It takes cool heads to play in those situations and I think we showed that.

“It’s never easy against ten men because obviously they sit back and defend. But some of the football we played was very good.

“We were patient, we had great movement and that was the key. We had some great chances, the keeper pulled off some good saves and we kept knocking on the door.”

Man of the match James Meredith said: “It’s such a special competition and we did so well two years ago.

“Leeds are a very good team but we were really up for it. We knew what it meant for the fans.”

Well done City.
What a disgrace Leeds are from Owner to Players, and the fans. ( I feel a bit sorry for the Manager, he seems a decent chap, but looked desperate and the poor man has looser written all over his face). There is not one redeeming feature of the Leeds set up. I wouldn't be surprised if serious sanctions are forced on them before the seasons end.
I was never comfortable with the tag of SCUM regarding Leeds, but after last night it does seem rather appropriate.
Going down for sure.

What a night, thank you BCFC for another fantastic cup night a valley parade. The game was fantastic, the atmosphere electric it was just a shame the Leeds fans weren't so gracious in defeat that they didn't feel the need to rip up chairs, throw them on the pitch and have their own disabled fans being pushed onto the pitch to escape. SHAME on every Leeds fan that took part, showing the world in front of the sky cameras why you are not liked by any other club in the country.

Remembering last night....

I saw trees of green
Red roses too
Leeds scored one
But we got two
And I said to myself...What A Wonderful World

I saw fans holding hands
Saying how do you do
And then one Leeds fan
Whispered.... 'I Love You'

I'm so proud of my team
As I watch them grow
How they came back
I'll never know....

The colours of the bantams
Were on display last night
All around the ground
Such a beautiful sight

Better than a rainbow
high up in the sky
With Knotty and Hanson
And some 'Never Say Die'....

And I said to myself...What A Wonderful World....

Enjoy the moment everybody!

Leeds have a reputation for being scratters and last night they club, players and supporters showed exactly why that is the case, nasty tackles, dissillusioned coach, fighting amongst themselves, and we all saw the poor bloke on the wheelchair being pushed onto the pitch. Low-life dregs of the earth.
As for bad language and kids ; you know if you go to any football match, there is going to be some fruity banter, I've taken my daughter (now 12) since she was 5, and its water off a ducks back.
Great result last night though, Leeds are the worst team I've seen down at VP for a long time. We will hopefully leapfrog them this season, and not have to face their ugly team or ape like supporters again for a while.

Agree as a long life City fan I walked down to VP with a couple of Leeds Fans never met them before and the conversation was your going to batter us tonight aren't you so the result was expected but they seemed OK so I assume it is like any other football club you are always going to get a few that have idiot supporters that try to spoil it for the true supporter, I am not to sure about leapfrogging Leeds the chances on last nights performance from Leeds is that they will be relegated with Huddersfield and not sure we have the fire power to sustain a top 2 place come the end of the season but what a turnaround from the Peterborough game just hope that the Rochdale game gets us 3 points and with 3,000 plus City Fans the atmosphere will be just as good.

Oh, what a brilliant night. It took me ages to get to sleep, with the arenaline still pumping. Roy of the Rovers stuff with that magnificent late comeback.

I'm surprised to read the comments on Width of a Post about Meredith. I thought he ran Knott close to being the Man of the Match.

There were so many stars on the night. Williams will feel hardly done to if he's left out on Saturday, although I do prefer Pickford's smart distribution.

If we can just move the ball a bit quicker, especially the final ball, we'll be a real force in the bread and butter league games.

Top marks to PP, his staff, the squad and the fans. A night that will live long in the memory.

I must admit feeling a little sorry for Hockaday. He seems a thoroughly decent bloke midst the rest of those associated with that club. I wish him well but hope, come the end of the season, Leeds have got what they deserve.

McLean will give defenders real problems at the top of that formation. He is fast and strong; legs like tree-trunks. Unfortunately, this means he is prone to injury and not, like some people suggest, carrying excess weight.

I think we are susceptible in the triangle between the central defenders and the goal-keeper. Merely an observation and something to work on?
Encouragingly, the goals against reads 5 in 6 matches and one of those goals (Posh) was as result of a jammy rebound. That is not a bad record.

It is great to see Rory McArdle provong that he is deserving of his new contract. I just wish that fans would shut-it when he 'booms' one forward. Some people may think it is funny but, like a golfer, it must be really distracting to hear that during his back-swing. Needless pressure on him. Remember who you are there to support; players don't need confidence issues.

Thought Mclean had a decent game, should have scored with the diving header hut he chased their defence all night and got into some good positions. The one player i thought slipped in performance was Kennedy, seemed to go back to last season form, no drive in his game, pannicked on the ball,he was constanly stood on Darbys toes instead if looking for space. Second half was crying out for pace down the right, cant believe he played the full 90 to be honest. Hopefully he'l be up for the Rochdale, his is a position id be looking to fill with decent loan signing.

Correct. McLean continues to disappoint. He looks muscle bound to me. I did think he tried, though. I hope he can turn things round, like Kennedy appears to have done.

Personally I thought that Kennedy did well enough. Other than missing a good scoring chance, he kept possession, made neat passes and was steady away for the most part. If he was, in fact, sat deep, then that is better than hiding.

Knott emerged with plaudits (rightly so) but it took him a short while to find his range. When he did, he was outstanding. Meredith was excellent as well.

It is all about opinions of course but I do not think that City would have succeeded unless the whole team were at it and if someone does not prodice a magic moment that is not to say they have under-performed.

I agree. He's not had much luck regarding injuries but there is no doubt in my mind he his a quality player who will create opportunities for other players to score even if he doesn't score a massive amount himself. If he can string a few games together when he is fully fit and I believe he will look a different player in the same way Kennedy has.

Total tosh, all of the players played well. Not a single poor player on our team last night. Obviously we have a poor supporter in YOU who has to try and find a negative out of that 90 minutes. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!
If you think Mclean played well you should go to SPEC SAVERS

Prisoner Cell Block A says...

McLean; diving header, great ball across six yard box that needed a touch for a goal, won headers he had no right to and made some excellent runs that created space for others. Give him a break, he's a City player and Nahki is paying his wages. Win, win.

I think you will find I said he wasn't poor! As PCBA points out he made contributions and worked the Leeds defence. If you didn't see the quality ball he put across the area or his diving header, his headers he won against defenders twice his height and his work rate then I would say you need spec savers or you know nothing about football

I also thought McLean had a good game, got in some great positions to score and caused the scummers defence real problems. Obviously he's lacking a bit of confidence in regards to scoring but that will come with a goal or two.
I agree. He's not had much luck regarding injuries but there is no doubt in my mind he his a quality player who will create opportunities for other players to score even if he doesn't score a massive amount himself. If he can string a few games together when he is fully fit and I believe he will look a different player in the same way Kennedy has.
Yes, couldn't agree more, confidence is crucial in all walks of life but absolutely key in regards to being goal scorer, he needs to string a few goals together and everyone will see him at his best. You make a great point in regards to Kennedy, this fella is a total revelation this season, made up him as he's obviously put in some serious work in the summer and we play a shape that suits his all action game.
