BRADFORD captain Tim Wade was thrilled after his side came from 14-10 down to beat Halifax-Huddersfield 22-14 and record their first victory of the season.

Like they did at Sandburn Hall against York seven years ago, the visitors won the last six singles matches to triumph at Woodsome Hall.

And following a morale-boosting draw with high-flying Sheffield last time out, Wade is delighted with the turnaround in fortunes.

He said: “Again Cec (Bloice, vice-captain) and myself had nothing but praise for the players for the way in which they battled for each point and each other out on the course.

“It was an inspiration to see how they committed themselves and we are all gaining a lot from the team spirit and camaraderie that has become more apparent over the last couple of matches since we lost at Teesside.”

On immaculate greens, the hosts just shaded a close morning session 7-5, with Chris Green and Dane Bairstow, and Jamie Mountain and James Darcy claiming Bradford wins.

South Bradford member Ben Cheetham also earned a point on his return to the side, teaming up with Henry Tetley.

In the singles, Ben Mountain bagged three birdies to come from three down with three to play to clinch a half.

The hosts’ Jamie Smith holed from around 40 feet at the last to beat Green, while Bairstow had to settle for a half after being dormie two.

Jack Laybourne won his match down the last and Cheetham earned a half but Tetley’s two-hole defeat left Bradford 14-10 down.

However, a stunning finish saw the visitors claim the last six games as Rob Malloy, JD Hussain, Mountain, Joe Marshall, Darcy and Andrew Busfield won.

Victory lifted Bradford up to third from bottom ahead of their final game with Harrogate at Woodhall Hills on September 7.
