SKYRAC AC tied with Gateshead in Saturday's final NORTHERN TRACK & FIELD LEAGUE Second Division match.

This was undoubtedly the best team performance by the Guiseley-based club since they returned to the league a few years ago.

Both clubs scored 365 points on the day, with host club Middlesbrough Mandale in third.

Gateshead have now qualified for the play-off for promotion to Division One, while Skyrac finished third in the division.

Wakefield became overall Northern champions, with City of Hull a fine third. Holmfirth were second in their section of Division Two, behind Leigh. But Skyrac were the next-best West Yorkshire club.

For Skyrac, Adam Brooks won both hurdles (20.6 and 60.1sec respectively), was fourth in the high jump and ran a leg of their second-placed 4x400m team.

Christine Reeday won the individual 400m (63.9sec). Hannah Brown and Rebecca Cesar de Sa dominated the 1,500 and 3,000m races, winning both strings of the 3000m (10min 56sec and 11:12 respectively). Cesar de Sa won the 1500m B, with Brown second in the A race.

Bethany and Fiona Thomas did likewise with three firsts and a second between them in the hammer and discus but then they then won the high jump A and B-strings.

Skyrac's ladies rounded off a great day with victory in the 4x400m relay.

Bingley's home match at Wakefield track saw them snatch promotion from Cleethorpes in Division Three.

Halifax's third place meant they survived and pushed Newark and Barnsley down to Division Four.

Aidan Leech and Demetric Nelson in the sprints, Ben Marriott in the 5,000m, Sarah Benson and Harriet Brewer in the throws and Jacob Gill and Kate James in the high jumps all recorded one or two A-string wins for Bingley.

Newark and Barnsley will be replaced by Huddersfield's Longwood AC, with a fine young squad, and Grantham.

Bradford-Airedale were fourth.

A competitive men's team remains hampered by a shortfall of women athletes but they ended the season in style by taking their coach from Grimsby's stadium to a party afterwards on the pier and beech at Cleethorpes.
