9:36pm

Aaron Mclean’s controversial late strike put City into tomorrow’s Capital One Cup second round draw.

With extra-time looming, the substitute latched on to Billy Knott’s pass and barrelled his way through to score the only goal – with a hint of hand ball.

It proved enough to settle a close contest that was high on energy but low on genuine excitement.

James Hanson had a header cleared off the line just before half-time while keeper Ben Williams, making his City debut, defied Paul Mullin in stoppage time.

9:36pm

That's it... City into round two

9:17pm

Knott launches into a determined solo charge but then runs straight into three red shirts

9:16pm

Mullin clears the bar for Morecambe. If this was a rugby game, the points would have been racking up by now

9:14pm

9:13pm

City have gone back to the diamond with Clarke slipping in behind the front two

9:11pm

The crowd is 2,395 with 971 from City

9:10pm

Morais, who has not had the same effect second half, makes way for Mclean. Knott comes on for Yeates, 69min

9:10pm

Cavalry time in the City dug-out... Mclean and Knott stripped and ready just as Clarke almost clears the roof of the stand with a wild drive

9:07pm

Devitt tries to catch out Williams with a chip towards the near post. It doesn't and the keeper catches above his head.

9:04pm

Here comes that heavy rain again... just as the Morecambe choir launch into "Bring Me Sunshine"

9:02pm

Ellison gives an ironic wave to the away end as he gets the City Reject taunts

9:02pm

9:00pm

Frantic activity on the Morecambe bench as Jim Bentley prepares to make a double change.

Big chance for Ellison .... but he heads wide from Wright cross. Should have scored!

8:55pm

... and Clarke does the same with a shot on the turn

8:55pm

Hanson loops effort over the bar in response...

8:54pm

Ellison engineers an opening for Morecambe, holding off Meredith and Kennedy before curling shot well over bar

City's support, meanwhile, dusts off that old cup ditty about not giving a fudge

City immediately win a corner in the monsoon

8:47pm

Hanson and Clarke get us off again - just as the rain starts absolutely lashing it down!

8:45pm

City already out for the second half.

8:35pm

Good half without out of first gear. Hanson header off the line. Will win this in second half with wind #bcafc

8:31pm

And we're all square at the break

8:30pm

One minute of added time

8:27pm

Nobody goes near it and Devitt's kick whizzes in one side and out the other

8:26pm

Four minutes to half-time and Morecambe have another corner

8:25pm

Williams has had a save to make at last - it's a routine low catch from his namesake Ryan

8:24pm

I hope I'm tempting fate but this has got the feel of extra-time all over it

8:23pm

Huge cheer from the City fans as Ellison falls over as he shapes to shoot from distance

8:22pm

Tonight's ear worm is an intensely-annoying, off key Morecambe version of "Here's to you, Mrs Robinson".... Excruciating!

8:21pm

Yeates seeing quite a bit of the ball. Morecambe double-teaming him to stop the cross

8:21pm

Why is it always cold in Morecambe? For mid-August, it's got a nip in the air

8:20pm

Redshaw fancies a shot from just outside the centre circle.  Needn't have bothered..

8:20pm

Meredith sets off on promising run along left flank but eventually ends up down a blind alley

8:17pm

8:14pm

Kennedy gets a block in to take the sting off an effort from Williams

8:13pm

City's first foul - in the 28th minute - earns ironic cheers from the home crowd

8:12pm

Ellison leads the Morecambe protests when a City challenge in the centre circle goes unpunished

8:08pm

And gets a booking and some choice words from the away fans for his troubles ....

8:08pm

First Ellison intervention - sends Yeates flying...

8:07pm

Morais responds by winning City's third corner. Roche does well to come through the crowd and punch away, taking a whack for his troubles

Sloppy moment at the back from the Bantams as McArdle pass deflects off Redshaw and bounces behind for goal kick

8:02pm

Ellison and Devitt, bizarrely wearing number three, have switched wings for Morecambe

7:57pm

Interesting #bcafc related striking line up for Huddersfield - Stead and Wells. They've gone little and large.

— CallumBooth (@CalBooth14) August 12, 2014

7:56pm

First real chance and it's for the home side. Redshaw, all 5ft 5in of him, gets past centre half Sheehan and fires across goal as Williams comes out to block the angle.

7:54pm

Clarke tries an ambitious effort from 35 yards but it bounces comfortably wide

7:52pm

Take Me Home, Midland Road is the anthem

7:51pm

It's a flat one from Dolan which nearly fools everyone until Parrish whacks it away

7:51pm

Big shout for hands against Clarke but nothing given and Yeates wins City's second corner

7:50pm

Almost don't recognise Jamie Devitt with his sharp haircut. No more shaggy locks

7:48pm

.... comes to nothing but City still applying the early pressure

7:47pm

First corner of the night to the Bantams ...

7:47pm

Noise level has cranked up from both ends. Feels like a cup tie

7:46pm

Meredith long throw bounces right across the Morecambe box and Wilson has to be alert to head away from Morais six yards out. Would have been some debut first touch that!

7:45pm

We're underway and Morecambe put the kick off straight into touch

7:43pm

First chorus of Parkinson's Bradford Army belts out from behind the City goal

7:43pm

Teams are out... City are wearing their away kit of white shirts and claret shorts

The Morecambe drum has started up....

7:27pm

Mason Bennett sat about 10 seats away at the game tonight ⚽️ @ParkerTandA @J4CKO71 @davejackobantam @Masonbennett20 pic.twitter.com/t73Emx1daz

7:25pm

The referee Scott Duncan was at Huddersfield on Saturday - blowing his whistle a lot for the home side to kick off after Bournemouth goals.

He also red-carded Nathan Doyle at Molineux last season. Nobody had any complaints that day.

7:25pm

The atmosphere is a bit different to Saturday but I'm sure it will warm up once the game gets underway. We're about 20 minutes from kick-off

7:18pm

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley has been in the executive lounge telling the fans the team. I only know because I was in the pie queue ....

7:10pm

7:09pm

It's Nick Allamby's time with the players... #bcafc pic.twitter.com/0WLC0CIQXu

6:57pm

Morecambe will set up 4-3-3 with Devitt on the right up front and Ellison on the left. Jack Redshaw plays down the middle.

6:56pm

Former Bantams Jamie Devitt and Kevin Ellison both start for the Shrimps.

MORECAMBE: Roche, Wright, Hughes, Parrish, Wilson, Goodall, Fleming, Devitt, Redshaw, Williams, Ellison. Subs: Kenyon, Sampson, Mullin, Drummond, Doyle, Amond, Arestidou.

6:45pm

Goalkeeper Ben Williams makes his City debut after the necessary paperwork came through.

Filipe Morais also plays his first game while James Meredith comes in for Andrew Davies. Alan Sheehan moves across to centre half.

Billy Knott also drops down to the bench and is replaced by Matty Dolan but Billy Clarke is declared fit to play. Gary Liddle is not involved at all because his wife is about to give birth.

CITY: Williams, Darby, McArdle, Sheehan, Meredith, Kennedy, Dolan, Morais, Yeates, Hanson, Clarke. Subs: Urwin, Davies, Mclean, Knott, Shariff, McBurnie, Pollard.

6:42pm

Good evening and welcome from the Globe Arena as City travel to Morecambe for the Capital One Cup first round.

The big news so far, if you've missed it, is the loan capture of highly-rated Derby striker Mason Bennett until January.

What a bargain McLean is turning out to be. It's clear for all to see that McLean is simply unplayable in this form. Surely now the anti-McLean brigade can admit how wrong they were all along. Few now would bet against him scoring 20+ this season. He's so good that even the ref dares not enforce the rules against him.
Dare I say that McLean has now eclipsed Stuart McCall as the best city player with a Mc surname?
The people who referred to him as 'toothpaste' must be feeling very silly indeed tonight.

Is the gate shared in the league cup like it is in the fa cup? I seem to recall it isn't and so I'd much prefer a home draw rather than a half empty old Trafford. If it was last years man utd we might have a chance but I think van gaals MU would brush us aside

Well it was nil to Morcambe so he must have done ok. Notice City had 12 shots with only 2 on target. Right there is an area to improve on. Like golf , not many go in if not on target ha ha .
