Barrow 10 Keighley Cougars 24

PAUL March was left delighted as Cougars took another huge stride towards safety by inflicting a tenth consecutive defeat on already-relegated Barrow.

Cougars took the lead in the 18th minute when half-back Paul Handforth scampered through a gap in the Cumbrians’ rearguard.

Eight minutes later, following a penalty for holding down in the tackle, James Haley sent Paul White over in the corner to double the visitors’ lead.

In the 58th minute, Cougars full back James Craven crossed for an easy try as he touched down under the posts.

Barrow finally hit back in the 62nd minute when a Liam Campbell kick slid through the grasp of two Cougars defenders and Nathan Mossop’s hands before being touched down just inches from the whitewash by centre Max Wiper.

After camping on the Raiders line with minutes remaining, Cougars extended the lead further when Handforth squeezed over to grab his second of the afternoon in the driving rain and rule out any possibility of the Raiders picking up a bonus point.

Raiders managed to close the gap to 14 three minutes from time when Bradley Goulding, son of coach Bobbie, crossed after some hard graft by Campbell.

After a third successive win, March said: “The try early in the second half which opened up an 18-point gap won us the match. They were in it until that point and sides who have been relegated are more dangerous as they’re playing for pride in the shirt and the badge.”

Good win. Lets hope RFL don't bottle it with Batley and Doncaster breaking the rules with dual reg infractions and they are punished accordingly seeing as Batley won the game when an ineligible player was playing and he even scored a try. 3 point deduction surely at the very least.

whilst I agree with your hopes regarding deductions of points I would not hold my breath that this will happen ,

Just a thought how would it affect us if they did indeed deduct points from Batley and Doncaster and gave the points to the teams they plaid ,how would that effect us ?.

Keighley got the full 3 points on offer that day so there will be nothing but the removal of their bonus point I would imagine. Batley won 3 points with the player in question as a scorer. There is no way they can say it did not influence the outcome.
We should know by Thursday. Until then we can only focus on beating NW Crusaders on Sunday and take things into our own hands. Would like to rely on beating Featherstone to stay up.

Who was Batley playing ? If it was Sheffield would Sheffield be given the points ?.Should we win on Sunday and whitehaven lose at Sheffield then we would be 6 points clear with 2 games left the current point difference is 140 in our favor .Dread to think what would happen if we do not win ,the last 2 games for Whitehaven are Rochdale home and Swinton away .
