We've got more than one captain, says Bantams boss Phil Parkinson

CITY'S streamlined squad may be a cause for concern as the season approaches but they do not lack for leadership.

Phil Parkinson’s call to hand Stephen Darby the captain’s armband in the wake of the departure of Gary Jones was seen as a popular choice.

The City boss felt the influential right back, the only player to start every game last season, earned the honour for his drive and determination for the team.

But Parkinson believes that Darby is not alone in that department and can see similar qualities throughout his starting line-up.

Parkinson said: “I think we’ve got a lot of captains in that team. We’re strong in terms of mentality.

“You look across the back four and they are all potential captain. Gaz Liddle is another leader and captain in there.

“Matty Dolan has also been a captain – we’ve got a lot of leadership in the team which is important.

“You can never have too many strong characters on the pitch and we’ve got plenty.”

Meanwhile, Liddle is thrilled that City kick off the campaign at Valley Parade.

Coventry’s visit on Saturday will have an added spice for the summer recruits seeing their first meaningful action on home soil.

The former Notts County midfielder said: “We’ve all been looking forward to this for a while.

“Coming to a new club, you want to get out there in front of your home fans. And when you know there’s going to be 12,000 people plus, it makes it even more special.

“We want to make a big impression for them and hopefully good times will come at this stadium.”

Reading Mr parkinsons statements in the Yorkshire Post i wonder his he is taking a low key approach when saying we hope to have a good season but the budget is less this has needs to happen sometimes. He does not seem to be looking for a promotion push from his remarks But his position is somewhat held back with a lack of money and he will of course do all he can with what he has available He has signed some fair players and maybe one or two of our young men will come good and he will be allowed to keep them GOOD LUCK PARKY FOR THE NEW SEASON

If we "Tread Water" we will go backward

We are at a cross roads this season

Managed correctly and with the right ambition we can position ourselves for (at least) a crack a the play - offs + we would be nicely placed for a crack at automatic promotion next year IF ? we progress.

If these signings do NOT gel however and if the loanee's do NOT make the difference, then it could be a tough old season

The Wembley year + most of the players are a memory now - The "Future" starts on Saturday

After 10 years of stagnation prior to promotion - Please Mr Rhodes / Mr Lawn - "Please" make it a "Bright" one

Come on you CITY !

In full agreement with Bingleybantam Treading Water would only lead to less support therefore less money and stagnation in division 1 or even less City are now in a position where it is vital progress is ongoing no matter how little but any backward step would endanger the whole effort being made by the Manager He needs continuous backing toi enable him to do his job properly anything less now would be counter productive to the progress made so far. Mr Parkinson is a Good Manager but i feel he needs a little more Backing to enable him to reach his Goals Let us hope for a very good season

Good mangers can manage with or without money. ( btw I rate parky) Look what happened at Palace last season for example, there are numerous examples. It's not as though he has had no money.

Yes some Managers manage without any money They are usually in the lower divisions and progress is rarely made Parky has very little is what must be born in mind ad must plot against hard cash it is no good saying there are NUMEROUS EXAMPLES not true Palace had plenty of cash Go tomorrow and cheer
