Billy Clarke’s equaliser ensured City finished their pre-season programme with a 1-1 draw against Hartlepool at Valley Parade.

In a dull first half, City went closest through an Andrew Davies header that was scrambled away from in front of goal. Former Bantam winger Jack Compton curled a free-kick wide for Hartlepool.

Things picked up after the break and Scott Flinders saved well from Clarke. The City striker was then denied by a smart block by Matthew Bates, on his return to Valley Parade following his release at the end of last season.

But it was Hartlepool who broke the deadlock after 71 minutes when Bradley Walker, who had just been foiled by a good save from Jordan Pickford, drilled home from the edge of the box.

The lead lasted just over a minute before James Hanson flicked on and strike partner Clarke beat Flinders with the equaliser.

City twice hit the woodwork in the closing stages with sub Mo Shariff making an instant impression with a dipping long-range effort that Flinders tipped on to the bar.

Here we are again at the start of another fantastic season with the mighty Bantams. The man in charge has gone for a few quality signings rather than bring the lot in. I believe this was always going to be the managers wishes. We have seen many a player wear the claret & amber and drift off into obscurity. We have rarely seen the few quality players produce and do any better than the 'lot' can do though I myself are keeping optimistic about this fore coming season. I think the midfield is possibly the gem stone of this teams making and the management's decision to truly lack behind the oppositions policy of signing anyone available. The remainder of signings will be to either offer that sparkle to an organised side, or to just fill the numbers up.
What is clear though is that the club see no need to panic just because the rest are. You need to take a step back and allow the professionals to do what they are paid to do. Results in the first games will determine whether we have the right to be worried. For all we know this side could be the best we've seen for a long time. I have upmost confidence in PP and his team. Back them and reap the rewards, because this won't be such a bad team as most are thinking.

Still worried about the keeper situation and the lack of chances we create, also lack of bodies in the ops box. Liddle, Clarke are looking like very good signings, as is Sheehan and Routis is the pick of the trialists, I can only see wages being a block to signing him.

If we play good football and finish mid table this will do for me.

Without being critical we lost wells as he wanted championship football. He felt it would not be with us and he was right in medium term. The board could have taken a big risk and signed a big name BEFORE he left. But didn't. Wells was an asset and was sold.

We have lost jones, Doyle, jmac, raven hill, bates, Reid, duke, .....

I am not saying this is bad but we need to think that mid table with this mind set is good and way better than 2 years ago. Promotion though is not realistic.

After watching that I'm starting to get a little worried, we don't look like we have that killer instinct to get goals for one, we get up to their box well then don't know what to do, formation doesn't seem to work either, it struggled against league 2 and if a decent league 1 side plays a 4 4 2 against us were just going to get overlapped on the wings, I don't care how good Darby and Sheehan are and they did play well but they're going to be defending against a winger and a full back by them self.
Need to sign Mo Sharif, could see the difference when he came on and can then play wide when needed

They haven't been able to score in training, when I've been there.

Next Saturday will be the acid test.

They scored today..and drew against Blackburn.

McLean needs to get fit and score some goals. I like Clarke.

Is Clarke better than gray?
Is Pickford than jmac?
Is Sheehan better than Meredith?
Does liddle offer more , dames as Doyle?

Lets get real.....wells and city were playoff material before he decided to play judas. Losing him (his heart was with udders) long before his fake injury, cost us dearly.....maybe 7 points. And certainly we would have won three or four of the thirteen winless streak with him. In other words with wells loyal to his benefactors(us) for the duration of his contract (he was being paid for cryin out loud!) We would probably be in the championship with nahki worth at least a couple mil with a year to go on his contract. Bad way to leave your mates mr wells.

Liddle is better than Doyle could see that today but didn't think Knott played well at all, was very disappointed in him, way he gave the ball away he deserved it in the face. Hope it just come together with time but hope it doesn't take too long very impressed with how Yates played compared to last year and dolan looks to have improved too

Yes I agree with the comment regarding Mo Sharif I have watched him in training and he is a very clever footballer unfortunatly it looks like another Parky 5min player how on earth can a player on trial show his best when only given 5min on this occasion he could have had 2 goals in as many min, had he have been given at least 45min you would see the best of Mo and he would most certainly be the first on the team sheet against Coventry , as it stands I doubt Parky will even consider putting him on the bench

He might well do that after careful consideration medical advice on DeVita's injury potential. I am sure PP is giving serious consideration to many options.

Good common sense post Banktop but weren't Yeats, Kennedy, De Vita, and Mclean suppose to be "quality" this is not criticism of Phil Parkinson but none of the above pulled any trees up last season, certainly so far the likes Sheehan, Liddle, Clarke and Billy Knott look shoe ins for starting a couple of new pacey forwards and I think we'll be OK.
