Jimmy Lowes hails unBullievable result against Leeds Rhinos

Bulls players celebrate Luke Gale's try but there was even better to come as Lee Gaskell crossed for the match-winner just six minutes from time

JIMMY Lowes could not hide his delight as the Bulls beat Leeds at Headingley to secure an historic win against their arch-rivals.

In the last derby fixture of the Bulls’ current stay in Super League, Lowes’ men claimed a deserved 20-14 win thanks to Lee Gaskell’s late try.

Their latest scalp followed last Sunday’s win over champions Wigan and gave Bradford their first win over Leeds in six attempts and first at Headingley since 2011.

Lowes, who won on the famous ground in his first match back as a player with Bradford in 1996, said: "I'm made up for the boys because it’s all about the lads and the work they have put in during the last month.

“They have been rewarded for all the hard work they have put in because we’ve had a mini pre-season.

“Once you have one win, it can have a snowball effect and we’re not going to let up with that either.

"It's good to walk into the dressing room and see them smile again.

"I thought it was an evenly-matched game. Both sides created very good chances and it’s a credit to both teams that they scrambled so well defensively.

“They chased lost causes down and that makes a big difference in the game.

"I couldn't have had a complaint if the game had gone either way, it was that evenly balanced."

Former Rhinos winger Danny Williams opened the scoring against his old club with Luke Gale, who played in the youth ranks at Leeds, the creator.

Gale added a try of his own early in the second half, kicked four goals and supplied the pass for Gaskell to score the matchwinning try with six minutes remaining.

Lowes, who saw Dale Ferguson make a welcome return to action after two months on the sidelines, believes his men can continue to upset the odds in their remaining four games.

"If that's the last thing we do in Super League, then it wouldn't be a bad way to exit," he added.

"We'll certainly try, if it means we affect things at the top of the league then so be it.

"But I'm more concerned about the lads getting more wins.

"It's a great feeling when you win and when you play well, so I'm overjoyed. I’m pleased with the way the lads are approaching the games now.”

Leeds boss Brian McDermott said he had “no qualms” with the result and lost winger Ben Jones-Bishop to a potentially season-ending knee injury.

McDermott said: “It’s not looking great for Ben – fingers crossed it’s not a bad one but that could be his season over.

“I have no qualms with the result and Jimmy has certainly brought something to Bradford. You could see that defensively and they didn’t give us an inch to move.”

Yes it would seem Jimmy has the ingredient Franny was missing,if its anyone's fault the board should have acted sooner.
Franny will still do well,he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time
I am really hopeful of a return first time round☺

When you cannot think of your own quote steal one thats birch lane's motto.
I stick by my earlier prediction of Lowes will not see a 3 year contract out.

I thought I had read it somewhere that Marc Green was waiting for Jimmy to be available, but I may be wrong!
