STEVE Cram, the BBC athletics commentator and former 1500 metres world-record holder, is visiting Ilkley Harriers on the evening of Wednesday, September 10 for a question-and-answer session. Places are limited to club members aged over 11.

Meanwhile, Ilkley fell running internationals Tom Adams and Georgia Malir were third and sixth respectively in the uphill Super Cup at Snowdon last Saturday.

In the International Mountain Race, the risk of electrical storms forced organisers to cut the race short at Clogwyn, three-quarters up the ascent.

Another intervention on the same day disturbed all but the top three runners in the Bingley Show. After a mile of the new 10km course, an upset horse blocked the path.

Runners trying to avoid it were stopped by two riders on horseback who would not move. The race effectively restarted after they eventually passed the horses.

Frank Berisford from Otley was one to avoid the melee and won in 41min 8sec.

The previous weekend, Baildon Runners had a strong turn-out at Baildon Carnival Canter. Their own Quentin Lewis came home first and Emma Stoney was second lady in 13th overall.

The following Wednesday at Widdup there was a tough, upland course in what was another counter in the Airedale Athletics Summer Challenge Series.

The rain just cleared in time for the race and Chris Williams of Queensbury finished 17th overall, with team-mate Peter Hughes a clear winner of the over-55s category.

Widdop marked the halfway point of the 16-race series. Ian Hartman holds a good lead in the individual league, with Baildon clubmates Jim Goddard in second and Linda Carey the top lady.

Baildon have a big lead over Saltaire in the team table, with Eccleshill third and Queensbury fourth.

The next off-road race in the series is Turnslack today, while the shorter Crow Hill Reverse (Tuesday, August 5) also has tough climbs.

Later in the month, the Tour of Norland Moor (August 24) is a good introduction to medium-length races.

Entries are now open for the West Yorkshire road five-miler at Birkenshaw (Sunday, August 10), the Yorkshireman Off-Road Marathon and Half-Marathon at Haworth (Sunday, September 14) and the Bradford City Runs (Sunday, October 26).
