CITY have put James Meredith’s mind at ease after his latest injury scare.

The Australian twisted his right foot at the start of their stay in Ireland, aggravating the same area he suffered the fracture which kept him sidelined during the second half of last season.

But his initial fears have proved unfounded and the left back could be ready to figure against Shelbourne tomorrow.

Striker Aaron Mclean, though, is unlikely to be involved as he receives further treatment on his calf problem.

Meredith trained away from the main group yesterday with head physio Matt Barrass but was able to join in some of the drills. He should be involved in everything today.

Parkinson said: “Whether we’ll play him tomorrow or not, we’ll have to wait and see. But it’s certainly not a long-term problem.

“It was more a concern mentally for Mezza than the actual injury itself because he felt a pain in the spot where he had the operation.

“But he’s progressing well and has been able to do everything. He’s a lot happier with it and we’ll just make sure he’s comfortable.”

Billy Knott was also kept away from the training matches yesterday after taking a knock on his ankle against UCD but Parkinson expects the midfielder to play.

“Billy is fine now. He made a tackle and got kicked but it’s nothing more than that.”

After losing 3-2 to UCD, City anticipate another testing afternoon in Dublin to round off their week away against a Shelbourne side currently riding high in the Airtricity League second tier.

Parkinson added: “The teams are halfway through their season which is perfect because they are at the peak of their match fitness. That’s why the games are hard.

“It depends over here because sometimes you get teams who’ve got league games around the same time and so don’t want to play their best players.

“But UCD played their strongest team at the start against us because they didn’t have a game until tonight.

“Sometimes you can be a little bit unlucky because the (Irish) fixtures don’t fall right for you. But this year it’s been good with both teams so we’ve got two very good games.”

Shelbourne were beaten 4-0 by Ipswich last Saturday but they put out a makeshift team after playing a league game the night before.
