Robinson try pulls fat out of the fire for Dudley Hill

A LATE try from scrum half Andy Robinson spared Bradford Dudley Hill's blushes in the Kingstone Press National Conference League at Waterhead.

Hill, who travelled to Oldham knowing a win would keep them in touch with the leading pack challenging for promotion from Division Two, would have reasonably expected that their lowly hosts' form pointed to an away success.

When Waterhead second-row forward Kristian Constantinou was sent off after three minutes, the Parry Laners' odds increased considerably.

Prop forward Adam Jefferson quickly replied in kind after Waterhead took the lead and Hill made steady progress to end the first half 20-16 up.

This followed a try from centre Aiden Batey and a sparkling brace by hooker Nathan Kitson, with wingman Simon Sewell adding two conversions.

Hill looked to be on the way to collecting the points on offer when centre Elliot Cousins and Sewell made the chalk on the restart. The wingman added another extra to establish a clear advantage over the Oldham side at 30-16 with acres of time left.

But Waterhead had other ideas and staged a gallant fightback that saw them grind down the deficit and go on to look likely winners at 34-30 with just two minutes left.

It was left to Robinson to pull the fat out of the fire when he scampered in for the equaliser and thereby emphasise to his team-mates that there are no pushovers in what is a very competitive division.
