BRADFORD Park Avenue have added to their squad by signing defender Sam Hewitt.

The 21-year-old has been impressive during pre-season and featured for 45 minutes for his new team in the recent pre-season friendly against Doncaster Rovers.

Previously in his career, Hewitt suffered a bad injury which ruled him out of action for a season. After regaining his fitness, the defender was part of the promotion-winning Brighouse Town side during the 2013-14 campaign, scoring three goals.

Hewitt said: "I'm delighted to join Avenue. I thought I would have had to play a couple more seasons to reach this level of football. It was a surprise to get the call from John (Deacey) but I feel that my hard work has paid off.

"Pre-season has been hard and I'm playing against players who don't seem to give the ball away! It's been good though and it will prepare both myself and the team for the season ahead.

"I will always give 100 per cent for the team and I'm looking forward to playing my natural game in the Conference North."
