Guiseley are looking at Nethermoor old boy Grant Roberts and former Bradford City youth captain Jack Stockdill as they prepare for their opening two pre-season friendlies.

The Lions are at Farsley tonight to play Albion Sports (7.45) and christen their new pitch on Saturday with a tasty derby against Bradford City. (3.00).

Guiseley manager Mark Bower said of the midfield triallists: “Both have done well in training and we want to add one more signing.

“We will give everybody 45 minutes tonight to get some game-time in their legs, as you cannot replicate match conditions in training.”

Stockdill only left Valley Parade in May, having been an unused substitute five times for the first team last season, and Bower said: “He will be looking forward to Saturday, as am I.

“Although it is not a game that we are looking to win, it is a chance to test ourselves against good opposition and an opportunity for me to meet up with some old friends, as well as playing on our new pitch. Hopefully we will get a few down to watch too.”

Guiseley only started pre-season training last week, with Bower explaining: “We wanted to give the lads a bit of extra time off having made the play-offs.

“But otherwise pre-season has not been much different to last season with Martin Stringfellow again involved.

“The only difference as far as the friendlies are concerned is that I will try and give all of our squad equal game time rather than giving a lot of players plenty of game time.”

Bower will be wanting to see how his new signings striker Adam Bowes and defenders Ryal Toulson and Danny Lowe perform.

Saturday’s match is expected to draw a big crowd to Nethermoor, particularly as Bradford City are likely to parade their new boys Alan Sheehan, Gary Liddle, Billy Knott and Billy Clarke in their squad.

The match is the first of three against Football League opposition for Guiseley.

They also play Leeds United at Nethermoor on Saturday, July 19 and Huddersfield Town two days later and big crowds are expected.

On police advice the match with Leeds United will be all ticket. It will be the Championship club’s first game in England under new manager Dave Hockaday.

Tickets for the match will be priced £12 for adults, £7 for concessions and £4 for 12-16 year olds. They are expected to go on sale at the weekend both at Nethermoor and the Elland Road ticket office.

The capacity of Nethermoor is 3,000 but the limit might be pegged slightly under that figure.

Guiseley’s chief executive Adrian Towers said: “Police have advised us that they expect a big following from Leeds and that is why the match is all ticket.

“It is certainly a game that is attracting interest because it comes straight after Leeds return from their Italian tour."

Guiseley are also expecting a good crowd for their home clash with Huddersfield Town two days later. It will be the Terriers' first game in England on their return from Portugal.
