A BRADFORD teenager has gone from recreational player to England international in two years.

Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College student Zion Tordoff, who plays for Bradford Dragons juniors, was selected for England boys' under-15 development team for a tournament in Copenhagen last month.

Zion's dad Dan said of the 6ft 4in 15-year-old: "I used to play and coach basketball but Zion was more interested in football when he was younger.

"He used to play basketball recreationally in 2012 but really got interested six months later when Dragons' junior coach Tamas Okros visited the school, which is where the Dragons train.

"Zion is a forward but England want to develop his all-round game so that maybe he becomes a shooting guard.

"The feedback from Copenhagen about Zion was positive and his targets now are a good pre-season with one-on-one coaching, playing for Dragons under-16s and under-18s and trying to get into the England under-16 squad."

England lost all three of their group games, including a 58-52 defeat to Finland White, but showed their improvement by defeating them 93-57 in the play-off final for ninth-tenth place.

Other teams that England faced were Sweden Blue and Slovakia in the group and Finland Blue in the play-offs.
