James Meredith this afternoon signed a new one-year deal to stay with City.

The Australian ended a summer of uncertainty over his future by committing himself to another season at Valley Parade.

Meredith missed the first week of pre-season training but was back at Apperley Bridge with the squad this morning.

He missed nearly four months of last season with a broken foot, returning in time to make two substitute appearances in the final three games.

But Meredith will have a fight on his hands to regain the left-back slot after the recent signing of Notts County skipper Alan Sheehan.
