Tiler a daydream believer

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Rebekah Tiler is preparing for the Commonwealth Games Rebekah Tiler is preparing for the Commonwealth Games

REBEKAH Tiler is trying not to get distracted by daydreaming about the Commonwealth Games.

But it is difficult when you have just broken 21 weightlifting records at the British Junior and Under-23 Championships.

The Denholme teenager set new marks at Wakefield College from under-15 to under-23 in the 69kg category after a snatch of 94kg and a clean and jerk of 121kg, which added up to a record total of 215kg.

It was the Bingley Grammar School pupil's last competitive outing before next month's Games in Glasgow and she said: "I didn't set out to break all those records – it just happened. My aim is to stay focused and just keep training."

But Tiler could not help looking forward to her trip to the Scottish city and said: "I am in good shape and I am in third place in my category for the Commonwealths – and I could be pushing for a silver medal.

"But as I have said before, the trouble is that I will be competing against women who are twice my age and my body is still developing, although I am right up there with them."

Next up for the prodigy is a Commonwealth Games training camp at Loughborough University this weekend and she said: "We will be going up to the Games Village in two weeks and I will stay there right until the Games end on Sunday, August 3."

Tiler is not the only Mytholmroyd Weightlifting Club member to be doing well.

Marcus Collins set personal bests of 88kg in the snatch and 107kg in the clean and jerk on his way to silver in the men's 77kg category at Wakefield.

The 16-year-old has now set his sights on next year's European Youth Championships in Sweden.
