Objectors to the Navitus Bay Wind Park project seem to be unaware that certain over-arching decisions regarding energy supply in our area have, in principle, already been made.

The Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Renewable Energy Strategy to 2020 recognises the dangers to the area from unmitigated climate change, and that there is an obligation in the form of legally binding agreements, and from the point of view of self-interest, to support renewables.

Dorset currently performs badly in this area: only 0.95 per cent of our energy comes from renewables compared with a national average of 3 per cent.

Given these strategic decisions, ruling out energy from fossil fuels for example, what alternative form of renewable energy would the opponents of the Navitus project suggest?
