THERE was Aire-Wharfe League heartache for Third Division Addingham, who came close to a second Waddilove Cup giant-killing feat after a brilliant century from Johnny Johnson put them on the way to setting Adel a 232-6 target.

Johnson (102) and Will Atkins (52) added 144 for the second wicket, and an unbeaten 31 from Calvin Hewitt saw Addingham in with a real chance of repeating their shock win over Rawdon in the previous round.

Hopes were raised even higher when Adel, who are in the Second Division's top three, were reduced to 111-4, and again when they lost two quick wickets while still needing 64.

But a quickfire 38 not out from Rob Brown helped Adel clinch victory with 16 balls and three wickets in hand.

Wicket-keeper Paul Nicholson was one of the Otley heroes as they recovered from a shaky start to see off the threat of Horsforth, another second-round giant-killer.

The Division Three leaders looked set to take a second – and even bigger – Division One scalp when they bowled out Otley for 118.

Otley were hampered by having Matt O’Grady forced to retire hurt but only Ben Morley (50) showed the determination to master the bowling.

The target looked well within Horsforth’s capabilities but Nicholson snapped up five catches behind the stumps and Morley rounded off a fine display with 4-13. Ricky Halloran weighed in with 3-25 and the home side were dismissed for just 72.

That win produced a mouth-watering semi-final against Guiseley, who made short work of a Bilton side that lie third in Division One.

Brian Jackson (57no) and Nadim Hussain (37no) took Guiseley to 202-4 before Marcus Brown (3-24) and Chris Wain (4-18) skittled out the visitors for 81.

Ben Rhydding’s wretched season continued, even though 43 from Alex Miller helped them recover from 38-7 to 110.

It was never going to be enough against a Collingham side that eased home by nine wickets, thanks to Toby Jacklin, who followed up a four-wicket spell with 71 not out.
