Warrington Wolves 50 Bradford Bulls 24

JIMMY Lowes’ first game in charge of the Bulls ended in a heavy defeat as Warrington ran riot at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Tony Smith’s men were missing six regulars but still had far too much class for a Bulls side who made a woeful start to the match.

They conceded three early tries and Warrington never looked back, with scores from Brett Kearney, Adrian Purtell, Tom Olbison and Jay Pitts at least giving the scoreline a semblance of respectability.

Ben Harrison, Ryan Atkins and Gareth O’Brien all went over early on and, with Stefan Ratchford adding two conversions, it was 16-0 after 13 minutes.

Bradford hit back before the break through Kearney’s superb effort from Lee Gaskell’s pass but they conceded within sixty seconds of the restart when Joel Monaghan touched down.

Ben Westwood, Monaghan again and then Gene Ormsby quickly added further scores in a dreadful start to the second half for Lowes’ men.

Purtell hit back in the 59th minute but O’Brien grabbed his second and Rhys Evans added another Warrington try before Olbison and Pitts’ late consolations.

BRETT KEARNEY returns to First:Utility Super League action this afternoon, starting at full-back as part of a fresh-look Bradford Bulls line-up.

The former NRL star suffered a broken thumb in Bradford's defeat of Warrington Wolves, in May, and has missed the last seven games.

However, he has been recalled by new head coach James Lowes for today's round-eighteen battle against the Wolves, at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Kearney is being joined by Elliot Kear, Adrian Purtell, Adam Henry and Matty Blythe in the Bulls' backline, with Kiwi Henry starting at centre – inside former Warrington man Blythe.

Lee Gaskell reverts to stand-off, partnering Luke Gale in the halves, with Manase Manuokafoa, Matt Diskin and Adam Sidlow making up the front row.

Jay Pitts and Tom Olbison feature in the second row, with Danny Addy completing Bradford's starting line-up at loose forward.

Chev Walker, Adam O'Brien, James Donaldson and Jordan Baldwinson are selected as the Bulls' interchanges, meaning Jamal Fakir and Luke George miss out from Lowes' 19-man squad.

A positive display going forward even though it was a weakened Wolves side; but we just do not have the size to compete up front and paid for it down the centre.

Before the usual there are no players available crew start, must of the damage was inflicted on us by England yet again; a player recruited from the Championship.

As much as it pains me I have to agree with AxelF, we need to use the rest of the season to build a team SL 2 like the rest of the current Championship sides are.

If SL is such a joke then maybe the Championship is just what you are looking for . Dont blame officials for your short comings , ALL SL teams suffer the inconsistencies of our refs etc at some time of the season . remember no one is perfect and no one gets everything right all of the time , its part and parcel of the game . Live with it .
At least next season you wont have the same officials to worry about will you

Only seven comments after another "business as usual"performance. Definitely an air of resignation and finality with our bloggers. Now Jimmy will know just how poor the squad, assembled by Cummins, is. He even signed players who only watch but never play. Obviously, Jimmy must produce a side each week to complete the season but it is proving a long, painful death for the supporters. I would like to see Jimmy's plan B put into action soon as if we don't prepare for Championship life it will be a rude awakening when we arrive.

It's easy to pour scorn on someone for making a valid comment. Which is what a number of you seem to be doing. Speaking as someone who wasn't at the game, I can't comment on what the officials were or weren't. However it appears BHC only comments on how the game is suffering because the RFL are content to let sub standard officials - officiate. He never gave it as a reason for the "Bulls" losing,
Unfortunately the usual culprits are twisting his post to suit their own unreasonable agenda.

One factoid which is a small crumb of comfort,: It's only the second away game that we scored 24 points (which according to reports could have been 30 if Gale hadn't dropped the ball on the final pass).

Didn't you read the squad before making your amazing prediction of a Warrington win. Which BTW I correctly predicted. I am so clever or are you so predictable?

Are you saying Warrington would have won by more had they not had 6 players missing and only had a squad of 11. Or if if they had the 6 missing players to add to the squad of 17. As far as i was aware you can only select 17 players the game which is what they did.

Any thoughts on world cup or wimbledon winner yet, or are you waiting until the final 2 to make your prediction?

Axelf,
You are correct with the six players missing. What you failed to mention is that those six would be on more money than the whole of the Bulls squad.Yes,it is the old Bulls managements fault but it just goes to show that unfortunately the salary cap, which was brought in to make it a level playing field is a farce. It does not work and never will under the present rules. If it did work, like it does in Australia, you would not see the top four teams the same year after year. But there again the R.L. will just sit there and do nothing about it.It was also supposed to stop situations like the Bulls, spending money they have not got.It is a failure along with the Licence fiasco.Rant over, going to tee off now.
