Warrington Wolves 50 Bradford Bulls 24
JIMMY Lowes’ first game in charge of the Bulls ended in a heavy defeat as Warrington ran riot at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Tony Smith’s men were missing six regulars but still had far too much class for a Bulls side who made a woeful start to the match.
They conceded three early tries and Warrington never looked back, with scores from Brett Kearney, Adrian Purtell, Tom Olbison and Jay Pitts at least giving the scoreline a semblance of respectability.
Ben Harrison, Ryan Atkins and Gareth O’Brien all went over early on and, with Stefan Ratchford adding two conversions, it was 16-0 after 13 minutes.
Bradford hit back before the break through Kearney’s superb effort from Lee Gaskell’s pass but they conceded within sixty seconds of the restart when Joel Monaghan touched down.
Ben Westwood, Monaghan again and then Gene Ormsby quickly added further scores in a dreadful start to the second half for Lowes’ men.
Purtell hit back in the 59th minute but O’Brien grabbed his second and Rhys Evans added another Warrington try before Olbison and Pitts’ late consolations.
Final score: Warrington 50, Bradford 24
78 mins... TRY for Jay Pitts...
73 mins... TRY for Tom Olbison who finishes off from Adrian Purtell's fine break inside the right channel... now 50-16 with kick to come...
70 mins... TRY for Warrington as Rhys Evans takes Ryan Atkins' pass to score in the left corner..
68 mins.... Kearney breaks clear and passes to Gale, who knocks on horribly...
64 mins.... TRY for Gareth O'Brien, who scampers through a gap in the Bradford defence to score his second try...
56 mins... TRY for Adrian Purtell following a fine break from Lee Gaskell...
50 mins... TRY for Warrington as Gene Ormsby goes over in the right corner after good work from Ryan Atkins and Gareth O'Brien...
It's now Warrington 34, Bulls 6.... this could be a very long half...
46 mins... TRY for Warrington as Ratchford and O'Brien combine to send Joel Monaghan over the line for his second of the match...
44 mins... TRY for Warrington as Higham’s short pass sends Ben Westwood crashing over from close range.
Ratchford adds the extras... so it's 22-6...
The second half is underway and Warrington have scored again... Joel Monaghan outjumps Brett Kearney to ground a high kick...
Half-time: 16-6 to Warrington, but the Bulls came back well in those last 10 minutes and are still well in the game.
like this style of attacking from anywhere, it will work if we stick at it— @KearGareth 29 June 2014
Brett Kearney stopped just short after excellent work from Manuoakfoa...
Luke Gale's conversion has cut Warrington's lead to ten points.
34 mins… TRY for Brett Kearney, who goes past Matty Russell to score from Lee Gaskell’s superb offload 30 metres out…
Whenever the Bulls get close to the Warrington line, they have lacked the guile to make it pay... still 16-0...
Adam O'Brien on for Matt Diskin... still 16-0....
Chev Walker and James Donaldson on for Tom Olbison and Danny Addy... still 16-0...
Warrington utterly dominant here. 16-0 up and in total control...
It's 16-0 with less than fifteen minutes played... how many times have we said that this season?
12 mins... TRY for Gareth O'Brien, who is enjoying a fine game so far...
07 mins... TRY number two for Warrington as Ryan Atkins touches down Gareth O'Brien's teasing grubber kick...
Ratchford cannot convert so it's 4-0...
04 mins... TRY for Warrington after a poor knock-on from Luke Gale... Gareth O'Brien stopped just short but Ben Harrison goes over...
Decent start for the Bulls but then a sloppy knock-on by Luke Gale, who had been at the heart fo all the visitors' best moves early on...

The young forward is named in Tony Smith’s match day squad for the Super League Round 18 fixture at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Gareth O’Brien starts for the hosts, but Chris Hill misses out for the first time this season despite being named in the 19 on Friday.
Wolves: Russell; Ormsby, J Monaghan, Atkins, R Evans; Ratchford, O’Brien; Asotasi, Higham, Westwood, Grix, Currie, Harrison. Subs England, G Riley, Dwyer, G King.
BRETT KEARNEY returns to First:Utility Super League action this afternoon, starting at full-back as part of a fresh-look Bradford Bulls line-up.
The former NRL star suffered a broken thumb in Bradford's defeat of Warrington Wolves, in May, and has missed the last seven games.
However, he has been recalled by new head coach James Lowes for today's round-eighteen battle against the Wolves, at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Kearney is being joined by Elliot Kear, Adrian Purtell, Adam Henry and Matty Blythe in the Bulls' backline, with Kiwi Henry starting at centre – inside former Warrington man Blythe.
Lee Gaskell reverts to stand-off, partnering Luke Gale in the halves, with Manase Manuokafoa, Matt Diskin and Adam Sidlow making up the front row.
Jay Pitts and Tom Olbison feature in the second row, with Danny Addy completing Bradford's starting line-up at loose forward.
Chev Walker, Adam O'Brien, James Donaldson and Jordan Baldwinson are selected as the Bulls' interchanges, meaning Jamal Fakir and Luke George miss out from Lowes' 19-man squad.
