Yorkshire continued to chip away at Warwickshire’s resistance on day three at Edgbaston and took five more wickets during the afternoon.

The Bears, facing a deficit of 194 on first innings this morning, reached tea at 158-8 from 63.3 overs following two wickets each for Ryan Sidebottom and Steve Patterson and one for 18-year-old left-arm spinner Karl Carver.

Adam Lyth held two fine catches at second slip and a three-day finish is very much on the cards, with Warwickshire still 36 in arrears and a minimum of 32.3 overs left in the day.

Sidebottom had Tim Ambrose sharply caught by Lyth to leave Warwickshire at 95-4 in the 44th over before the same man had innings top-scorer Will Porterfield caught behind with a beauty for 43 in the 48th over, making it 110-5.

Patterson had Chris Woakes caught by a diving Lyth to leave the score at 133-6 in the 56th over, still 61 runs adrift.

When he got rid of Rikki Clarke with a one-handed return catch in his next, the score was 136-7. Carver then struck in the final over of the session when he bowled Jeetan Patel to signal tea.
