JIMMY Lowes today completed a return to his spiritual home after being unveiled as the Bulls’ new head coach on a three-year deal.

As exclusively revealed in last Tuesday’s Telegraph & Argus, Lowes was keen to succeed Francis Cummins in the hot-seat and made his interest known to Bradford chairman Marc Green.

The pair met last week and, following successful talks, Leeds Carnegie have granted Lowes a release from his contract as head coach at Headingley.

The 44-year-old former hooker enjoys iconic status at Odsal having spent eight years as a player with the Bulls, winning three Super League titles, two Challenge Cups and a League Leaders Shield.

He was named man of the match in Bradford's 2002 World Club Challenge triumph over Newcastle Knights and scored 84 tries in 205 appearances for the club.

Lowes was this morning unveiled to members of the media at a packed press conference and Bulls chairman Green said: “We are absolutely delighted to have someone of James' calibre in place as our new head coach.

“As a board of directors, we recognise his talents, what he has achieved in the game, the names he has worked under and alongside in previous roles, and also what he achieved, last season, with Leeds Carnegie.

“Regardless of what division we play in next year, we believe James is the right man to drive this club forward and into a new era.

“We have been working extremely hard to ensure we have the right man for the job and are confident James can achieve great things here, both in the short term and in the long term.”

Lowes will begin coaching the Bulls' first team tomorrow morning (Wednesday), before leading them into battle against former his employers Warrington on Sunday afternoon.

The one-time Yorkshire captain has previously worked as an assistant coach for England, Bradford, Salford, Leeds and Warrington, where he acted as head coach for a period during 2008.

Following a return to the Rhinos in 2011, as assistant to current boss Brian McDermott, Lowes took up the position of head coach with Leeds Carnegie.

Chief executive Robbie Hunter-Paul added: “James fully understands the importance of nurturing stars of the future, he recognises the need for talent to filter through from the bottom up.

“In the short term, James is aiming to get the very best out of the squad and will begin work with our players right away.

“Going forward, he is committed to piecing together and developing a full performance department solution, while aiming to return this fantastic club to its former glories.”

Good luck - very good luck.

I hope the appointment of such a quality (perhaps unproven) coach bodes well for the future and seriousness of the management.

Say what you like about Lowes at least he's got drive and determination and won't take any crap off any player. Maybe Henry Paul as assistant? Would love to see Morrison on the coaching staff but doubt he would take anything short of the top job.

Let's all get behind Jimmy and give him the support for the rest of the season and next year as we push for promotion. Featherstone seem to be making waves, lets see if we can put them back in their place. ;-)

Great signing. Someone with balls, no nonsence and ability - and he could tackle!. On the pitch he proved that he could motivate, hopefully he can do that in the dressing room. Good Luck Jimmy and welcome back!

Just one thing, is it 2 out 1 in? He cannot do it alone, who is going to help him? We have problems with motivation, fitness, tactics, defence... I hope the board are going to run the club and Jimmy the team. Recipe for disaster if Ferres and Hunter-Paul start sticking their fingers in to plug the gap

Here’s a radical suggestion. Let’s give the guy a chance and show him our support – can anyone remember him selling us short as a player? It’s the Championship for us next year, not even Wayne Bennett assisted by Tim Sheens would be able to prevent that, I’m afraid.

As many have already stated I hope he gets the support he needs. It’s all very well appointing a great ex-player as coach but he’ll need a good backup staff. Cummins and St Hilaire had the smallest backup staff in SL. Lowes hasn’t got an assistant yet. I hope this is because he wants to appoint his own men. If Green is serious the staff needs to be beefed up so that there is more attention to detail.

I’ve no idea if Henry Paul is a good coach or not but he’s a big name with a proven record as a player in both codes. As an assistant he’d be a drawcard when it came to recruitment. If not him then Scott Naylor has built up some useful experience and knows a thing or two about defence – it was his biggest asset. A good man to sort out our leaky defence? I’d definitely give Paul Deacon a ring too if he could be tempted back to Yorkshire. He had a great rugby brain and was a great game manager – the perfect mentor to the likes of Brook.

These great ex-players that are learning their trade as coaches would bring a positive can do culture and they’re all winners. That’s needed more than ever.

A positive move and good news for once. Now lets see if he gets the backing from the Board that he needs to move the Club forward that FC did not get.

Although the comment from RHP would suggest that we are not going to be getting any new major signings:

"James fully understands the importance of nurturing stars of the future, he recognises the need for talent to filter through from the bottom up."

I know Jimmy will give this 100% as he has been after this job for ages lets hope he receives it back.

Certainly seems to be alot of negativity on this subject, i was feeling totally fed up with the state of the Bulls this season, to be quite honest, even though i have a season ticket after last Fridays pathetic display against a very average Hull KR team i was on the verge of calling it a do for this season. Now with Jimmy Lowes back at Odsal l can feel things will be on the up, we obviously will be relegated at the end of the season but at long last i think there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

(jimmy knows the value of bringing talent up through the ranks) Just hope that doesn't mean there's no money to spend on recruitment of players.
it's not going to be an easy job, but i'm sure jimmy will be up to the task. and as it's been said he'll need a good backroom staff.
Won't be no cakewalk getting promotion from championship rugby, Leigh, Fev,Fax and London, will all fancy their chances.
Best of luck to all for a much brighter future at Odsal.

Jimmy was one of my all time favourite Bulls/ Northern players.

Stuart McCall was one of my all time favourite City players.

Stuart made a massive mistake coming back as manager.

Given the lack of quality in the squad he's inherited, I hope Jimmy doesn't meet with a similar fate.

There is a lot of negativity with the scoring of some of these posts. How can you give someone a negative for standing by and attempting to be positive. Jimmy might not be everyones first choice for the job, but he now has the reigns and the task of raising this club out of the ashes. Lets get behind him and show him that he has cone back to a great supported club!! I for one will. Welcome home and best of luck Jimmy.
Is there something wrong with the site ?

It seems that all the positives have turned negative and the negatives positive from earlier on today.

When did Axel last get 16 positive votes ?
Certainly seems to be alot of negativity on this subject, i was feeling totally fed up with the state of the Bulls this season, to be quite honest, even though i have a season ticket after last Fridays pathetic display against a very average Hull KR team i was on the verge of calling it a do for this season. Now with Jimmy Lowes back at Odsal l can feel things will be on the up, we obviously will be relegated at the end of the season but at long last i think there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
The only light at the end of the tunnel is if we finish in the top 4 of the championship which would expect to be with fev, fax and London, then finish in top 3 of mini league which would include wakey, Leigh, widnes and KR. Only then can we start to see the light. We'll have more funds available than this season but crowds will drop and still have stadium rent to pay, doubt RL will do us any favours. At least the games will be more local without the likes of barrow Workington and crusaders but London will still bring their poultry 50!!! COYB

Sound appointment with next year in mind. Jimmy will bring a bit of dog to the team and he will not tolerate slackers. He wants to win at everything he does so always gives 100%. If he has chance to select his own people as staff i think this drop in fortunes can turn out to be a blessing in disguise. He hasnt got much to work with this year but i would expect the playing attitude to improve 100% before the end of this season. out of a really miserable couple of seasons i feel this is where our luck changes. A balanced (not negative) point of view, before all the fans get carried away.

I wish Jimmy all the best and hope he leads us back to SL as quickly as possible. He is a legend and one of the best Bulls players ever. He was no doubt the fans choice, for his previous playing achievements. I am certain he will inject some passion and fire into the bellies of the players.

But I am worried that he club have once again appointed an unproven SL head coach. Yes he has been an assistant SL coach and coached Leeds C in RU division 2. But look at the last two unproven heads coaches we had - McNamama and FC. I know we will be in the Championship and not the SL, but we really needed an SL coach.

Also, I'm not sure why the board would appoint a new coach now, with 10 games left, as whatever Jimmy does we will get panned every week and relegated, except for against London, and I wonder how this will affect his support from the fans. Surely it would have made more sense to keep FC till the end of the year and then let Lowes take over since the season is finished.

just take it away the scoring bit. Why the the hell anyone would bother with it is beyond me. Some people have too much time on their hands or are wasting their lives by logging in 28 times just put a negative or positive score on a comment.

There's one sado on here who'll even be predicting a Warrington win on Sunday then claiming to be mystic Meg when its happens!

Good luck, Jimmy. Part of my dream team but not fronting it. I was less than happy with the comment Diskin made, on the appointment, in that he was happy it was a young coach who would get on with the lads! What did that mean? They are supposed to be professionals and should respond to a coach whatever age he is. So, there is you first mammoth task, Jimmy. Motivating under-performing personnel who appear to play the game as they want to and not the way the coach wants to! A good clear out needed with Diskin at the head of the queue. The first thing Jimmy should do is strip Diskin of the captaincy as, I believe, he is a destablising influence on others. I still believe that Green hopes that the side can win half its remaining games and the six points will be reinstated. Dream on.

Almost Sense99, the top 3 go into SL whilst 4th and 5th play a one off decider for the final spot.
