AARON Mclean is confident he can find the right attacking blend with James Hanson.

Mclean signed off last season in confident fashion by netting two classy finishes against Crawley and Tranmere.

It raised hopes that the January capture can rekindle the goal-scoring form that forged his reputation at Peterborough the last time he played at this level.

But City fans will want to see whether Mclean's partnership with Hanson can hit it off to the same extent as when the targetman combined with Nahki Wells.

Hanson endured a frustrating finish to the campaign when his persistent back and groin issue restricted him to just one start in the final six weeks.

The front pairing of Hanson and Wells was one of the most respected in the lower divisions but with Mclean's style very different to the Bermudian, it will take time for a similar understanding to build.

Mclean said: "Obviously the manager has made it clear he wants me and Hans to lead the line – but these things take a while.

"We're totally different players but we'll both work hard and put ourselves about. It's a good problem to give the other team and hopefully we'll both nick goals.

"We've worked hard together on the training pitch and in games to make sure we get as good an understanding as possible.

"We want to go into next season, start off with a bang and be pushing for promotion. There's no reason we can't do that if we keep working hard the way we are."
