CITY of Bradford Esprit duo Holly Waxman and Ruby Bower have been selected by British Diving for international trips after becoming national platform champions in their respective age groups.

Holly, 13, will compete in Girls' Group C events in Rome at springboard and platform in what is her first international event, while 14-year-old Ruby has been named on the European junior team.

Their selection follows impressive displays at the British Gas Elite Junior National Championships in Plymouth.

Coun Andrew Thornton, Bradford Council’s executive member for environment and sport, said: "This is an incredible success for these young divers who work closely with the Council’s Bradford Aquatics Competitive Diving Training Scheme, and this partnership has, year on year, produced diving champions at all levels in the Junior National Championships.

"This latest result is yet another success for coach Rebecca Lee, who has been invited to attend the competition in Rome as part of the staff team.”

In addition to all of the above success, the girls have also been invited to a British Diving Assessment camp which could see them selected onto the British Diving Talent Programme.

Should the girls be chosen, they will have the opportunity to attend training camps delivered by world-class coaches and train alongside like-minded young talent.

The programme is designed to nurture the talent of divers who have a realistic chance of gaining medals on the world-class circuit.
