Yorkshire took three wickets in seven balls shortly after lunch as they seized the initiative on day one of their LV= County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston, later bowling them out for 228.

Jack Brooks struck twice in two balls to get Sam Hain and Chris Woakes caught at first slip by Aaron Finch in the 38th over, leaving the score at 89-5.

Steve Patterson then had Rikki Clarke caught at first slip by Alex Lees in the 39th with 90 on the board.

And later, when Rich Pyrah had Tim Ambrose caught at first slip by Lees, Warwickshire were 124-7 in the 47th over.

Left-arm spinner Karl Carver, 18, took his maiden first-class wicket to end a stand of 47 in 12 overs for the eighth wicket when he had Keith Barker caught at first slip by Finch for 36, leaving the score at 171-8 in the 59th.

Brooks then bowled Chris Wright in the 64th before Jeetan Patel, who had united with Barker for the eighth wicket, and Boyd Rankin shared 48 for the last wicket.

Patel finished 63 not out as Ryan Sidebottom wrapped up the innings by trapping Rankin in front in the 72nd.
