Rich Pyrah struck twice in three balls this morning as Yorkshire made an encouraging start to their LV= County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
The all-rounder was joined in the wickets column by Steve Patterson as the Bears, who won the toss, were reduced to 65-3 in the 27th over before reaching the break at 71-3 from 32.
Yorkshire, handing a debut to 18-year-old left-arm spinner Karl Carver, got the breakthrough courtesy of Patterson’s fifth ball when Will Porterfield edged to Aaron Finch at first slip, leaving the score at 20-1 in the tenth over.
Pyrah then had Varun Chopra caught behind with a beauty that left him off the pitch with the last ball of the 25th over as the hosts fell to 64-2, before he bowled captain Jim Troughton through the gate two balls into the 27th.
Carver has bowled three tidy overs at a cost of five runs by the interval.
