Alan Sheehan today spoke of his delight after joining City on a two-year deal following his departure from Notts County.

The 27-year-old, who captained the Magpies last season, was out of contract and his arrival at Valley Parade looks to have signalled the end of James Meredith's City career.

Meredith’s retained offer from the Bantams, on what were believed to be on improved terms, expired on June 16 and boss Phil Parkinson has now snapped up Sheehan.

The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international began his career at Leicester before enjoying spells with Mansfield, Leeds, Crewe, Oldham and Swindon and then joining Notts County in 2011.

Sheehan said: "When I spoke to the manager, he told me the plans he had for the club. He didn't really need to sell the place to be honest though, everyone knows what a big club Bradford are.

"I'm delighted to be part of the manager's plans here. I can't wait to get started now with pre-season and to meet all the boys."

Notts County tried to re-sign Sheehan and Gary Liddle but both men opted to join the Bantams, where their contracts begin on July 1.
