Francis Cummins’ tenure as Bulls head coach ended today after he was relieved of his duties following yesterday’s heavy defeat at Salford Red Devils.

The 37-year-old signed a three-year contract in September 2012 under Omar Khan’s stewardship but the current board made a collective decision to let Cummins and his assistant Lee St Hilaire go.

Cummins originally joined the Bulls as assistant to Mick Potter while St Hilaire has spent eight years with the club, acting as assistant coach and – for a spell – head coach.

A spokesperson for the club’s board of directors said: “This is a decision which has not been made lightly and Bradford Bulls would like to thank both Francis and Lee for their efforts over the years.

“Both have worked under difficult circumstances during their time here, but the club recognises that a change of direction is required.

“The board of directors has the upmost respect for both Francis and Lee and wish them well with their futures.”

The process of replacing both Cummins and St Hilaire is now underway.

In the meantime skipper Matt Diskin has agreed to act as temporary player-coach ahead of Friday’s visit of Hull Kingston Rovers, under the guidance of managing director Steve Ferres.
