Farsley have completed their first signing of the closed season with the recruitment of Lewis Nightingale.

The 23-year-old midfielder had a spell at Bradford Park Avenue but was signed by Farsley from Evo-Stik League Division One North rivals Mossley.

Boss Neil Parsley said: “When you make a signing there is always an air of excitement and pleasure for both yourself and the player involved.

“For Lewis, it is a nice accolade that he is the first arrival here for the new season. I’m pleased to add Lewis to the squad as he is a clever player with an excellent football brain. He is also very eager to succeed.

“There won’t be massive, wholesale changes over the summer but we are looking to add three or four to the squad that we currently have in place so that we can go one better than last year.”

Farsley finished just four points outside the play-off places last April after taking only one point from their final three games. Ironically, their season ended with a 1-0 defeat at Mossley.

Parsley and his side were left disappointed but he feels they will be stronger for the experience.

“It was a difficult run-in as we played most of the sides in and around the play-offs,” said the Farsley boss.

“Missing out on the play-offs was hard to take after we had been up there all season - but that’s football. You have to accept it and move on. The aim is to push again in this coming season.”

Meanwhile, Farsley have added a third pre-season friendly at home to Albion Sports on Thursday, July 24. They travel to Garforth Town six days later before hosting Guiseley on the first Saturday of August.
