Bradford karate star Emelye O'Brien continued her winning ways by winning gold in the cadet female kumite as Leeds Karate Academy enjoyed a fantastic weekend at the Northern Classic Open in Warrington.

Not satisfied with one gold medal, O'Brien then joined forces with Sarah Howarth and Amber Bannister to take another in the girls' team kumite.

The senior male A team of Joe Hart, James Brown and Craig Williams fought well to pick up silver.

Joining them on the rostrum with joint bronze medals were the B team of Stephen Brown, Tom Little and Hayden Steele and the C team of Joe Bulmer, Sam Coxon and Zach Sharp.

Mell Finlay had a great day, taking silver in the senior female kumite. And Jordan Weatherly, together with Doug Hunter, took silver in the senior pairs kata.

Seb Mitchell, in his fist competition at this level, took an excellent silver in the boys pee wee kumite.

Bronze medals were also taken by James Brown in the senior male kata, Tom Mitchell in the junior male kumite, Richard Fewkes in the veterans male kumite, Sarah Howarth in the cadet female kumite and David Lister, Lewis Bradbury and Jack Bevan in the boys team kumite.

Instructor Matt Price, a sixth dan black belt, said: "Everybody had a great day's competing. Emelye yet again looked on top form and it was fantastic to see Seb do so well at only nine years old."
