Matt Diskin and Bradford Bulls are ready to prove a point

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Matt Diskin says there is an internal belief at the Bulls, even if they have been written off by outsiders Matt Diskin says there is an internal belief at the Bulls, even if they have been written off by outsiders

Matt Diskin is happy for the Bulls to be written off as relegation certainties – and has vowed to prove the doubters wrong.

Francis Cummins’ men lie eight points adrift of third-from-bottom Wakefield heading into their Magic Weekend showdown with Huddersfield tomorrow.

The visit of the Wildcats to Odsal on June 1 is shaping up as pivotal, and the Bulls’ appeal against their points penalty could be also be heard that week.

Skipper Diskin said: “It would be fantastic if we get the points back, and the powers that be are dragging their heels over it.

“If we don’t get the points back then it doesn’t make it impossible either. We’ve got a belief in ourselves as a team that we can achieve something this year.

“We’ve got to continue to believe that because externally nobody else does. That’s fine with us. Internally we know what we can achieve and we are striving to achieve that every week.”

Richard Agar’s side have won their last two games to put clear daylight between themselves and the Bulls.

But Diskin declared: “What Wakefield do is irrelevant – it’s all about what Bradford do, and we’ve got to pick up wins.

“We’ve got no control over what happens with the teams above and around us, so what’s the point worrying about it?

“Let’s worry about what we can do in-house. We’re working hard every week and if we keep doing that with a bit more smartness then we will pick up the wins we need.”

Diskin said that building any kind of consistency was difficult due to the Bulls’ injury crisis and struggle to add new signings.

He added: “Consistency is going to be a problem because when you have a small squad you have people carrying bumps and bruises and you struggle to get reinforcements in.

“To consistently perform each week is hard, so we’ve had two brilliant performances in Warrington and Catalan and then just fell off against St Helens.

“So, after a kick up the backside, let’s get back on track this weekend in what is a big spectacle.”

The Bulls are again down to the bare bones as they prepare to face a Huddersfield side who have won their last four games.

“They’re a fantastic side and they finished top of the league last year,” said Diskin.

“It has been a bit harder for them this year because everyone is probably gunning for them now because they set the standard last season.

“But for us we need to get back to winning ways and build some confidence back.

“Huddersfield will be a big task because they’re a big set of forwards. We haven’t got many forwards but the lads that we’ve got are trying their damndest to get us forward.

“We will go in with 100 per cent effort like we do every week. We are literally living week to week at the moment as a team and as a squad.

“We have bumps and bruises and are low on numbers and we are preparing each week as if it’s our last. That’s the way it is at the moment.”

They could be famous last words but that's all they are. Actions speak louder than words. Leadership, effort and a game plan win games. Good luck to you all on Sunday.
