KEIGHLEY AC

There is much to play for in the final match of our Canal Challenge, which takes place on Sunday, May 25. Darren Watson leads the field, despite John Martin taking the second round with a 3lb 6oz haul. Martin attributes his recent win to the pinkies he fished over groundbait, which brought enough skimmers into his swim to push Dennis Freeman (2lb 2oz) into second place. The veteran was disappointed to be runner-up after appearing to have got his waggler tactics just right in the breezy conditions. Tony Greenwood remains in contention after netting 3lb 12oz in the opening match. Anyone interested in knocking Watson off his perch can contact the match secretary on 07795-243332. Away from competitive angling, all Keighley waters are in prime condition and fishing well. One member reported landing over 7lb of roach, skimmers and two specimen bream in a two-hour early-morning spell on the canal near Silsden. There have also been large numbers of roach, together with pike, being caught on Whitfield reservoir at Steeton.
