Rebekah Tiler barely has time to draw breath these days.

Just a week after winning a silver medal in the European Youth Championships in Poland, the 15-year-old weightlifter from Denholme (pictured) is one of the leading lights at the British Senior Championships this weekend in Coventry.

Emma Tiler said of her daughter’s performance in Ciechanow: “There was no under-15 event, so Rebekah had to go into the under-17 69kg category against girls who were up to almost two years older.

“Rebekah won the snatch with 93kg but was a little disappointed with her 115kg clean and jerk, which got her a silver, and she also won silver overall.

“She was only 1kg behind Romanian Florina-Sorina Hulpan (209kg against 208kg), who was 22 months older.”

Hulpan had a 91kg snatch and a 118kg clean and jerk, and Emma added: “Rebekah felt dizzy after getting her first clean and jerk of 113kg to neck level, then thought she had made the second lift at the same weight, but the judges thought otherwise.

“That meant she had to make the third lift, which she did at 115kg, but overall she was a bit disappointed.”

The Bingley Grammar School pupil, who was the youngest by a month in her category in Poland, is among a record entry of 117 for this weekend’s national championships at the Ricoh Arena.

She will be competing in the 69kg category in Sunday’s second session (11.40am-3.20pm).

The event is the final chance for athletes to gain Commonwealth Games qualifying lifts, but Tiler has already achieved that milestone.

Among the other star names competing in Coventry are 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Zoe Smith and Leeds-based Jack Oliver and Ali Jawad, the latter competing in the para-powerlifting championship.
