Grangefield Old Boys Reserves completed a rapid Yorkshire Amateur League club double as they beat Gildersome Spurs Reserves 4-1 to win the Hancock Cup final.

The senior team had lifted Grangefield’s first-ever major silverware the previous week when they won the Marflitt Trophy final and the second string backed them up in style.

Division Two side Grangefield dominated against Division One opponents Gildersome at Liversedge FC before a record crowd for a Hancock final.

Two Dan Cuff goals earned a 2-0 interval lead, Tyler Gill made it three and although Josh Sheldrake pulled one back, Cuff unselfishly set up Sam Ellis to complete Grangefield’s victory.

League action coincidentally saw the two finalists’ first teams going head to head in the Senior A division but this match ended with the result emphatically reversed as unbeaten champions elect Gildersome crushed their second-placed opponents 6-1.

A Steve Wales goal gave Gildersome a slender half-time advantage but then they cut loose, with Ben Keedy netting twice as Luke Hunter managed the only reply.

Senior B leaders Farsley Celtic Juniors maintained their pursuit of the title with a 4-2 win at second-bottom Thornesians to set up an enthralling title decider at second-placed Stanningley OB Reserves this coming Saturday. Sam Bradley, James Kasher, Ben Cook and Adam Jesusco were the Farsley scorers.

Relegated St Bede’s were unable to bow out with a positive result as they lost 3-1 at home to mid-table Shire Academics in their final match. Substitute Tahir Akram bagged the consolation goal.

St Bede’s Reserves also lost their last game, 4-1 at leaders Almondburians in Division Two, as Ross Jones’ goal counted for little.

Division Three action saw Heckmondwike GSOB miss out 3-1 at home to second-placed Wheelwright OB despite leading at the break through Ryan Laidlaw.
