Yorkshire have made an excellent start to their LV= County Championship match against Durham at Emirates Durham, reaching lunch at 87-1 from 30 overs.

Andrew Gale bravely opted to bat first upon winning the toss, but Durham’s bowlers have not made use of swing and seam on offer for the bowlers. Graham Onions has been unusually off colour.

Alex Lees has been the only wicket to fall this morning, caught behind following a Jamie Harrison ball which he need not have played at, leaving the score at 29-1 in the 11th over.

Adam Lyth and Kane Williamson have since added an unbroken 58 for the second wicket. Lyth will resume this afternoon on 39 with the New Zealand overseas player on 22.

Yorkshire, who have left Steve Patterson out, have recalled Tim Bresnan and Jonny Bairstow to their team after rest and injury. Andrew Hodd retains the gloves.
